DESIGN ELEMENTS, HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF MSN LOGO
Shape, Colors and Font of the MSN Logo
The MSN logo comprises of a memorable stylized butterfly insignia. It was first introduced in 2000. Microsoft decided to introduce a redesigned version of the logo in 2009. As a part of the rebranding effort, a fresher, cleaner and more contemporary design was adapted as compared to its predecessor.
The new MSN logo, however, embodied the butterfly in a rather abstract form. It incorporated a rounded and thinner typeface, while discarding the bold-italic style of the former logo. Moreover, the original colors of the butterfly – blue, red, green and yellow – were retained but with slight variations in shades. Also, the brand name was featured in gray color instead of blue.
The butterfly is a traditional symbol of love, joy, trust and freedom.
The MSN logo is often considered as one of the most popular and instantly recognizable logos in the computer industry.
