Sun Microsystems, Inc. was a leading American producer of computer components and computer software. Sun is credited with the creation of Java programming language, Unix operating system and the Network File System (NFS). The company was founded in 1982.

It was acquired by Oracle Corporation for US$7.4 billion in January 2010. In February 2010, Sun Microsystems, Inc. merged with Oracle USA, Inc. to form Oracle America, Inc.
