Buick Logo

Buick is a famous car brand owned by General Motors that was founded in 1899 by Scottish-born Detroit automotive inventor David Dunbar Buick as “Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company”. It is widely credited to be the oldest active marque in the history of America.

Buick was purchased by General Motors and eventually became one of their most esteemed luxury car brands.

DESIGN ELEMENTS, HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF BUICK LOGO

Shape of the Buick Logo

The famous “trishield” logo of Buick is inspired by the family coat of arms of David Dunbar Buick, the company’s founder. It is widely credited as one of the most popular car logos in the world. The early emblem contained a red shield with a checkered silver and azure diagonal line. Above it was a stag, while a punctured cross was placed below it. It was first featured on the radiator grills of Buick cars in 1937.

The Buick logo was thoroughly modified in 1960. The single shield was substituted by three of them in red, white and blue colors – actually representing the LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra models. Replaced by the Buick Hawk in the 1970s, a simplified form of the “trishield” logo was adapted again in the 1980s, but with the same “patriotic” color scheme.

Colors of the Buick Logo

The silver color in the Buick logo stands for purity, dignity, sophistication and grandeur – whereas the black color represents the dynamic attitude and excellence of the company.
