DESIGN ELEMENTS, HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF BURBERRY LOGO

Shape of the Burberry Logo

The “Equestrian Knight” logo of Burberry is one of the most iconic emblems in fashion. It was designed in 1901 sporting the Latin word “Prorsum”, meaning “forwards”. As a founder and owner of the company, Thomas Burberry was very keen and deliberate to protect the interests of his business and products. He registered the logo in 1904, and sixteen years later, the eponymous check in 1920. The check only started appearing on the lining of the raincoat a few years later in 1924.

The Burberry logo embodies an equestrian carrying a shield. While the shield depicts protection, the equestrian is a symbol of pride, purity and grandeur.

Colors of the Burberry Logo

The black color in the Burberry logo represents elegance, strength and durability of the company’s products.

Font of the Burberry Logo

Outstandingly refined yet very simple, the Burberry logo utilizes the Linotype Didot Bold typeface.
