Zahiruddin Mohammad (1483-1530), commonly known as
Babur, was born in the Ferghana valley in 1483 and was
descended from both Genghis Khan and Timur-e Leng.
In 1525, from Kabul, Babur invaded India and defeated
the local ruler, a Pashtun, Ibrahim Lodi at the Battle of
Panipat, near Delhi. Babur installed himself in the citadel
of Agra. The Mughal dynasty founded by Babur reigned for
332 years in India. He died in Agra in 1530, however his
remains were returned to his beloved Kabul in 1543. He
was buried in his favorite garden, now called Bagh-e
Babur. His favorite wife, Bibi Mubarika, an afghan woman,
was buried close to him.
