By FITSNews || S.C. Rep. Tim Scott has been praised by the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers for his “diligent, principled and courageous stands against higher taxes,” according to a news release from the organization.
While not a direct endorsement, the “commendation” was effusive in its praise for the First District Congressional candidate, calling him “a leader who is as good as his word.”
Scott’s campaign was quick to point out that “of 14 candidates running for Congress in the First District, only Tim Scott can point to a proven history of stopping tax increases at both the local and state level.”
From the SCAT release:
Since being elected to County Council and the South Carolina of House of Representatives, Representative Tim Scott has upheld his promise to the people of Charleston and Berkeley Counties and South Carolina to fight all efforts to raise taxes.
While some politicians see that promise as political rhetoric, Representative Tim Scott understands it is good economics.
Part of an especially crowded field of candidates vying to replace outgoing Rep. Henry Brown (RINO-Hanahan), Scott has emerged as the clear front-runner for the GOP nomination. In an electoral climate dominated by concerns over growing deficit spending, Scott has stood out based on his fiscally conservative record. In 2009, his first year as a state lawmaker, he was one of only fifteen state lawmakers to earn an ‘A’ grade from the S.C. Club for Growth.
Scott’s most serious challenger appears to be Charleston County Councilman Paul Thurmond, son of former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, although Myrtle Beach tea party activist Katherine Jenerette has developed a formidable grassroots operation in her corner of the district.

Politics is about image and reality put in front of the voters and, at the end of the day, it’s really about one hard working taxpayer going into a voting booth and pushing the button next to a name.
The key issue for Scouth Carolinians in the 1st CD is not whether the many candidates in the race are good people. In fact, they are.
The issue is which candidate will be a real fighter, someone who will “make a difference” in a legislature where “going along to get along” is the norm. Americans need people in Congress who will lead, who will show the way to many Representatives who believe that spending a lot of your money is the way to ensure their re-election — forever.
I support Katherine Jenerette because I believe she will be that leader, that difference-maker, that fighter. Without such leaders, our country will continue to go downhill.

I’m with Stephen on this one. I believe Mr. Scott is a good man, but I’ll be supporting Katherine Jenerette. She is a proven leader and fighter like Mr. Maloney has previously stated.
“Politics isn’t just a game of competing interests and clashing parties. The people of America expect us to seek public office and to serve for the right reasons. And the right reason is to challenge the status quo and to serve the common good.” – Sarah Palin

I guess the Tax Payers Association has forgotten the long bitter battle where Tim Scott did everything in his power to raise the sales tax by one cents in Charleston, in order to keep the CARTA busses running. Short memories!!! Ask Joey Douan how bitter the battle…
There are a couple of really good solid republicans in this race.
My favorites so far are Jenerette and Buckhannon. I think Jenerette has a good solid lead and I would be willing to bet she will be the last man standing.

Each indidvidual will make that decision for themselves based on what they hear over the next few months. While the SC Tax Payers Assoc is a heavy weight org., it will still come down to a media race. There is a good chance that some underdog, liberty minded, TeaParty candidate will upset the Republican establishment and pull ahead and win the primary. For whatever reason, power, money, or friendships, The GOP in the first district insist on steering and manipulating so their “main man” gets attention. While Tim Scott smoozes it up, the other candidates are beating the bushes for votes.
In 2008, The Ron Paul people were active and working the areas but didn’t manage to wake up the masses until the economy went south. They are pounding their chest because Ron Paul pulled off an upset in the CPAC poll and won. That tells you that the Constitution is important and that “Freedom is Popular”.
If anyone wants to know exactly what a Ron Paul Presidency would have looked like, go here http://www.lewrockwell.com/woods/woods63.html and remember, Ron Paul’s folks can still make it happen.
Tea Party candidates are not all Ron Paulites or share his views on the military but they do all share his views on limited govt. after all, Regan and Goldwater politics are thought of as part of the Tea Party mentality.

This race is about a bunch of cut-out also rans plus Katherine Jenerette, a real patriot destined to be part of the history of South Carolina. One day she’ll be right up there with John Calhoun and Strom Thurmond!

Per an editorial in today’s(03/06/10) Post and Courier(Charleston)from John Rainey, Chairman of the Board of Economic Analysis, Tim Scot was present in April 2008 in a group of 8 SC legislators who were advised by Employment Security Commissioner J. William McLeod That the unemployment compensation trust fund was down from $800 million in 2000 to $114 million in 2008. He further advised that at time that he expected the fund would be “bankrupt within 14 to 16 months”.
Tim Scott and Vincent Sheheen were two of the 8 present at that briefing and took no action what-so-ever to avert the current mess we now have in the unemployment fund. Is this what we want from our elected representatives?

Katherine Jenerette,
She’ll tell you about how she never let her menses stop her from killing VC.
Or about how she split into to go fight the Taliban while simultaneously being in America since her pedo husband can’t be trusted with his own kids.
She drives a truck, and pumps her own gas.
She may or may not have completed the degrees she claims to have completed.
If what you want is someone as pathologically unstable as her supporters, vote for this woman. Cause she’s against spending and for killing ‘raaaagg-huds’ and she don’t take any crap from anyone whose done elitist things like: hold down a job, pay off a mortgage, get a real degree, run a business.
P.S. – Wait till her financials come out, they’re going to be awesome.
By Huhhh??? March 6, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Why didn’t you name all 8 legislators? One was Chip Campsen. Isn’t he one of Mark and Jenny’s best friends. Did he tell Mark?
Go to the Post and Courier and read all 8 names. It’s not an editorial, its in the op-ed section.

“Myrtle Beach tea party activist Katherine Jenerette has developed a formidable grassroots operation in her corner of the district.”
Yes she has a large following all over the state and especially in the Lowcontry. But is the tea party her claim to fame? No she is a self made woman, a history professor, an honorable Army officer (ret) and an active duty reservist. She has a family with four great kids and a husband who is behind her all the way.
We dont need to keep elected people who use their ‘daddys’ records to get elected. We dont need candidates who cant make up their minds as to which seat they should run for. We dont need candidates who say they are for lower taxes yet want to charge taxes so the Charleston urban crowd can ride the bus free. The bus never came by my house when i lived in Charleston!
Katherine Jenerette can shoot, run, duck, mange people, joke and talk to normal, real people. Many of these other stiffies cant function without their campaign mananger telling them what to do and say-mini-lobbiests I guess.
By Conservative Republican March 6, 2010 at 5:56 pm
McCay,
You’re correct. The State Taxpayers probably received a sizable contribution from the Scott campaign prompting their endorsment. How else, as you say, could you explain their endorsement of a candidate who fought tooth and nail for a sales tax increase in Charleston County not to mention documentable evidence (newspaper article) quoting Scott as being for hiring quotas in Charleston County.
Nothing has changed. This appears to be politics as usual as to an endorsement going to the highest bidder. LOL
By me March 6, 2010 at 6:39 pm
I wont vote for someone who supported getting rid of 400k bikers in myrtle beach which led to our local economy becoming CRUSHED. I dont want to even think about her role in that campaign fund scanadal them might come to light or her issues with her husband and his daughter.
I might vote for scott but not until i learn his stance on mcamnesty
By John March 7, 2010 at 1:02 pm
I’m tired of these mainstream cookie cutter politicians. That’s the problem with politics nowadays. Without a doubt, I’ll be voting for Katherine Jenerette. She thinks outside the box…
By Notta Hater March 7, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Did anybody notice that “Over My Dead Body” seems to have some sort of personal relationship with Katherine Jenerette? It’s like she actually hates her. It makes me wonder if this person is a stalker.
By Greg Walton March 7, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Nice projection there. It’s Katherine’s husband’s truly pathologically unstable adopted ‘daughter’ who has ‘issues’ whenever Katherine runs for office.
Want another Nifongate and Crystal Gail Mangum on your conscience? Or havent you read this yet?

Any Republican candidate with half a brain knows the “acceptable” answers to questions they will be asked during the campaign. In their “stump” speeches” they will promise the right things. The question voters should ask themselves is whom do they believe will go to Washington and do the things they promise. Most important say NO to spending money we don’t have, and that means stopping ear marks and their corrupting influence. The freshmen class of 2010 will probably be larger than usual. But the “old heads” (long time incumbents)” will wrap their arms around the new arrivals and tell them how it’s going to be and promise them support for their next election if they play ball. When you look and listen to the candidates identify the candidate you think will have the fortitude to hold fast to the reform needed, and the ability to help lead the newly elected congressmen/women from both parties to begin to reverse the slide into bankruptcy. That will not be those already well connected too the party or the career politician. Take a look at Ken Glasson.

“The Charleston Urban Crowd?”Hmmm…Ms. Washington, could that be code for the “N” word?
