the first few bars sound ok, but it gets very repetitive , even a bit primitive, and seems to have the vocal potential to be be very flat and out of tune, it sound like.
@Milan is very simple ! In 2001 jurys vote for most of countries and also in 2005 many ex soviet countries was out of ESC . Countries like: Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro and Serbia was out in 2001 and Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia ( who help and get help from the rest ex soviet counties ) was out of the contest. Also Serbia and Montenegro was one country. :)
Good luck Malta... Ohh I still miss Glenn, he was so cute :)
Nothing of special..
After reading the comments on here while the video loaded I was then expecting a horrendous song but I love it! It's nothing groundbreaking but it's happy, pretty anthemic and ticks many a clichéd Eurovision box. This, with a good performance, could do well.
* to prefer to
I would prefer the same maltese over new swedish composers, tbh.
"In a tiny country like this, it's always the same composers year after year" Fabio Deluca, For the record the the Maltese winning song is written and composed by Johan Jämtberg, Mikael Gunnerås and Kurt Calleja himself. The first two are from Sweden and not Maltese. The rules for the Malta Eurosong had been changed, I'f I'm not mistaken in 2009, so that even foreign authors and composers would be able to participate and in fact this year, there were about 11 songs out of all 24 who were written, composed or both either by Maltese and foreigners or completly by foreigners. So, I don't agree with you that the Maltese songs are completely produced by soley Maltese people as facts say the other way round!!Maybe if some of you commenting here check some facts before commenting it would be better. P.S the information about the song writers and authors could be found here; http://www.escflashmalta.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1628:malta-eurovision-2012-preview-clips-revealed&catid=2:latest-news-international&Itemid=2 As for the winning song, I admit that it wasn't my favourite before last Friday, but when I heard it during the Semi Finals, I felt something that this could actually win the festival which it did. Besides I don't like to speculate who would win the 2012 ESC, especially when only a few songs have been selected so far. After all, a lot of songs are seen and heard differently when they are seen live on the ESC stage on May, and songs which are marked as definite winners fail while others succeed. We've seen this happen every year and this year wouldn't be different. So let's take some time before we rule out certain songs. We have to see the actual performances and hear the final song productions until we say who would win as things change as well as thoughts about the songs. Thanks, and Goodluck Kurt!! Cheers from Malta :)
Really not one of my favourites.
Why am I trying to use formatting on this stupid site?
@ Lina: "This is the night" is master piece in front of them You say so - so it must be correct, no? the huge help of ex soviet (for Moldova) and ex yugo (for Bosnia) Then how Malta came 2nd in 2002 and 2005?!
For a country that is supposed to take Eurovision so seriously, I can't understand why Malta always sends such terrible songs.
If Malta was in first semi things will be better, but 2 semi have countries who make it with worst songs that this year Maltese song. For example last year Moldovan and Bosnian song was realy bad imo and "This is the night" is master piece in front of them but both countries have the huge help of ex sovet ( for Moldova ) and ex yugo ( for Bosnia ) help. This year Malta is unlucky beacuse 5 ex yugo, Ukraine, Armenia, ( who is going to get the high votes Estonia and Lithuania and also Armenia is going to get high points from France & Netherlands ), Turkey who is going to get high points from ( France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bosnia and FYR Macedonia ) and Sweden with Norway who usual send strong entrys are in same semi with Malta. Lets hope that this year things will be possitive for Malta beacuse i miss Malta in final and trully i prefer Malta to be in the final than Russia or Ukraine !
I wonder what the bookies will make of this... 1000:1?
Out of curiosity, how is Claudia Faniello perceived in Malta? Is she liked? The only reason I ask is that over the years she has been competing her brother has been sent twice to Eurovision and Chiara 3 times. Why not her? Have the Maltese people simply not liked her songs each year or is there more to it?
He is a good performer but that is a really terrible song. It makes your toes curl it is so embarrassingly bad. And then it suddenly gets even worse.
Congratulations to Lawrence Gray on his amazing performance! Even though Lawrence had serious voice problems, he managed to give a really stupendous performance!!! And considering also that his song "In Your Eyes" is a very difficult song to sing, Lawrence accomplished an extremely difficult feat!! Well done Lawrence!! You make us all so very proud!!
I really like the song! It's in a hard Semi, but I hope it will qualify! Good Luck Malta and all the best from Cyprus! :)
Take some former Maltese entries and remember what was popular in the 1990s and you get this song. Not bad but easy forgettable.
Congratulations Malta - I think it's a fine winner :) Let's hope that Kurt is the guy, that are able to take the islands to the finale this year.
Oh well. Malta seems to be like Spain, always choosing wrong. But hey! This song is not so bad. It's an ok song. Perhaps a bit dated, but if it was Armenia, or Azerbaijan or Russia sending it, it would be top 10 for sure, so until the people in charge do something about this stupid voting system, let's give a break to all other countries that try hard every year. GO MALTA!
@ Lucas Thanks a lot :) Cyprus will too I like your song La la Love! Goodluck @ Louis Zammit You are 100% right Eurovision is the best concert in the world xx
@i love malta dont worry friend! you will do well in esc! no need to read all these comments and ruin your mood! people here think, eurovision is like the world music awards or something! they dont see with all the ex soviets, every year , every crap goes to final, and they make a big deal about malta!! GOOOOOO!! cyprus loves you!
well i have not yet had time to hear the other winning song that will go to baku..but come on guys most of you just attack the Malta song ..if its a ballad ohh its a ballad again etc etc if its a disco oyy yee its copied etc etc....the first time i heard this song was last Friday on the semifinal night and i loved it i felt its a winning song..yes puree of claudia the song was oki her voice was great..but im happy that kurt got the ticket to BAKU..here in Malta we are happy and thast what counts...now maybe you can VOTE for US and change a bit that attitude ..EUROVISION we LOVE you....
I like the fact the song and the singer are very energetic .I guess we will have so many up-tempo tunes this year which is great because watching a snoozefest is not something I prefer!once again good luck Malta!
Malta just can't seem to choose the wrong song. Better luck next year Claudia..
This sound like a song that was rejected from melodifestivalen in an early stage.
