History of Kolkata Airport
Gate way to North Eastern States.
Located at Dum Dum, 18 Kms of the City.
1924 - First Aircraft landed - "DAKOTA - 3" .
1942 - Had a very small beginning with a primitive airstrip.
1960-69 - This airport occupied an important position with 0.5 lacs passenger traffic, the highest among MUMBAI, DELHI & CHENNAI airport.
1970 - Commission of first Terminal Building for operation. Major world air carrier like Japan Airlines, Panama Airlines, Air France, Qantas Airlines, Swiss Air and Cathay Pacific were operating at this airports.
1972 - AAI took over the management of this airport and carried out various plans to improve the passenger facilities, aircraft operation and its safety and security.
1975 - Commissioning of first Cargo Terminal in the country.
Jan 1995 - Commissioning of new Domestic Terminal building and the renaming of airport as NETAJI SUBHAS CHANDRA BOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
Sep 2000 - Commissioning new International Arrival Hall (September).
Sep 2006 - Export wing of Integrated Cargo Complex (July).
