Our Motivation

In 2007, Vernon and Charlene Wells partnered with Michael Young and Taunee Taylor, both with the Texas Rangers baseball organization, and Stephanie Gillespie, an Arlington Police Officer and Mission Arlington volunteer.

The group embarked on a charitable endeavor that forever changed the Wells' purpose in life. After taking a group of underprivileged children shopping for basic necessities, they became aware of a demographic that had previously been unfamiliar to their family- homeless children of Arlington.

These children live among the homeless population of Arlington, living in motels with their parents who are unable to provide regular meals or proper hygiene, much less a quality of life deemed acceptable in today's society.

The Vernon Wells Perfect 10 Foundation supports and protects single mothers and disadvantaged children in need by providing them with a safe, stable home as well as opportunities to further their education. We also equip them with life skills needed to help break the cycle of poverty in their lives.

Our Reason

LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME, AND DO NOT HINDER THEM, FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD BELONGS TO SUCH AS THESE.

-LUKE 18:16

There are more than 1,500 homeless children on any given day in North Texas. There are countless more single mothers struggling to provide for their families.

Statistics

  • Christ’s Haven in Keller reported 600-800 phone calls a year from parents seeking help with the custody of their child/children.
  • 14,000 confirmed Child Abuse cases reported each year in North Central Texas.
  • Arlington Independent School District reported 2,006 homeless youth enrolled in the 2008-2009 school year, with 226 in shelters, 255 in motels and over 1,300 homeless youths unaccounted for throughout the city.
