Welcome to Cleethorpes Rugby Club

Welcome to www.cleethorpesrufc.co.uk, the official online home of Cleethorpes Rugby Union Football Club.

Cleethorpes RUFC was formed in 1979 at Lindsey School by a teacher, Ian Brown, to play rugby to the rules of the Rugby Football Union to which the club was affiliated.

The objects of the club were to promote the game of rugby in the Cleethorpes area and to provide the opportunity and facilities for the game to be played, to promote good fellowship, entertainment and social inter-course for the benefit of its members.

The first competitive game took place at RAF Waddington resulting in a close defeat. Over the years the club grew to a point where they had 3 senior teams and 2 junior teams producing talented individuals ultimately selected for representative teams at County level.

During the latter part of the last century Rugby in general saw a decline in the numbers playing the game resulting in some clubs stopping playing altogether. Cleethorpes did not escape from this. Whilst the club could only turn out one team the spirit in the club never wavered. Non rugby events took place to raise monies for local charities. A 'Calendar Girls' type of calendar followed by the 3 Peaks Challenge and more recently a Cycling/Rowing/Running marathon maintained the profile of Cleethorpes RUFC in the local community and raised its profile in the wider rugby world.

Cleethorpes RUFC committee and members are committed to the objectives laid down in 1979 by the late Ian Brown to invite anyone with a desire to play rugby to join our family.
