In September 1899, Ilford Council opened Central Park - the southern part of Valentines Park - the first public park in the area. By 1924 Valentines Park was much as we know it today, with Valentines Mansion and its formal gardens, lakes and landscaped parkland. Valentines Park is a remarkable example of 18th and 19th century country house parkland, containing many features of historical and environmental interest. The Park, Mansion and many of the garden features are Grade II listed by English Heritage. However, this attractive and unique park is in urgent need of restoration and development. Valentines Park Conservationists was formed in 1999 to work with Redbridge Council and others to preserve and develop the park for both visitors and wildlife. We carry out practical projects to restore the parks landscape and gardens, explore and document its history and environment, and promote it as a resource for all sections of the community. If you would like to help us achieve these goals, please join us - details are available on this site. Explore our website to find out more about us and what we do and, of course, about Valentines Park. |
