Description:
The Geoje Prisoner of War Camp, left as rubble at the end of the Korean War,
is being reborn as a historical theme park. In honor of the 50th anniversary
of the end of the Korean War, Ministry of National Defense has joined with
the city of Geoje in creating a new park on the old site of the Geoje POW
Camp, scheduled to open in late September. Some 23,000 sqm. of the original
camp is included as a major attraction; during the war it covered 11,800,000
square meters.
Other features include models of some main figures during the war, military
equipment, a magic diorama, a mock-up of a string of marching refugees, an
exhibit depicting prisoner life, a POW experience tank where visitors can
experience a taste of what life was like for a prisoner of war,
an observatory, and a miniature reconstruction of the female POW facilities.
The park sets itself ahead of the traditional museum by providing a new and
refreshing style of display, offering education and entertainment through
models and interactive exhibits.
Flags of the 16 nations who participated in the Korean War are hung
every day, and it will be a meaningful display for citizens of those
honored nations.
