Contributions of IBM to laser science - 1960 to the present
Abstract
IBM's role in the discovery of new lasers is presented with emphasis on historical sequences leading to the development of each device; attention is given to such new lasers as four-level lasers, injection lasers, saturable dye Q-switch lasers, SERS lasers, and VUV lasers. This is followed by a discussion of scientific achievements at IBM using lasers, including studies of laser-oscillator noise, IR nonlinear spectroscopy of molecular gases, optically written memory schemes, and laser-enhanced electroplating and electroetching.
