Europe-bound Sami Whitcomb quits Perth Lynx
The Perth Lynx have suffered a massive blow in the lead up to next season with co-captain Sami Whitcomb leaving the club to play in Europe.
Whitcomb has dominated since joining the club three years ago. She set a new WNBL scoring record in 2016-17 and has been selected in the league’s All Star Five in every season she has played.
Her impressive form led to the Seattle Storm signing her to a multi year deal in the WNBA.
Whitcomb signed a two year contract with the Lynx at the end of the 2016-17 season but that included an out-clause if she received a guaranteed offer to play in Europe.
She has notified the Lynx that she has received a European contract and won’t be returning for next season.
The decision is a body blow after a record breaking season.
The Lynx won 14 consecutive games before a highly criticised finals format handed them a horrific travel schedule which saw them miss the grand final.
Australian Opal Lauren Mansfield is the only player currently signed for next season.
