Export or archive contacts in Contacts on Mac
You can export selected contacts to send to others or to import on another computer. Or archive all your contacts so you have a backup copy of them.
Export selected contacts
In the Contacts app on your Mac, select one or more contacts.
Choose File > Export > Export vCard, choose a location, then click Save.
The contacts are exported as a vCard file (.vcf) only.
Export all contacts
In the Contacts app on your Mac, choose File > Export > Contacts Archive, choose a location, then click Save.
The contacts are exported as an archive file (.abbu) only.
Exclude information when exporting
You can exclude certain information such as photos and notes when exporting contacts to a vCard file (.vcf).
In the Contacts app on your Mac, choose Contacts > Settings, then click vCard.
Select or deselect the following tickboxes:
Enable private me card: Enables you to select the information shared when you export your contact card. See Set up your My Card.
Export notes in vCard: Allows you to include notes when you export a contact.
Export photos in vCard: Allows you to include photos when you export a contact.
Export contacts using Numbers
You can use Contacts and Numbers together to export Contacts to additional file types, such as CSV or Excel.
Important: If you have contact notes and photos or made your card private, fields you opted not to share will be included when you export your card using Numbers.
In the Contacts app on your Mac, select one or more contacts.
Open the Numbers app on your Mac, then open a new or existing spreadsheet.
Drag the selected contacts into the Numbers spreadsheet.
Choose File > Export To, then select an option.
The contacts can be exported as an Excel, CSV, TSV, or Numbers ‘09 file.
