Customize how notes appear in Notes on Mac
You can customize how your notes are displayed by choosing to view them as a list or gallery and changing how they are grouped. You can also customize how links and highlights appear.
Note: All Notes features described in this guide are available when using iCloud notes. Some features aren’t available when using accounts from other providers.
Change how notes are displayed
You can view notes as a gallery or as a list.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Do either of the following:
View notes as a gallery: To view your notes in a grid of thumbnails, click .
You must be using iCloud notes or notes stored on your Mac to view your notes in gallery view. To go back to gallery view after viewing a note, click .
View notes as a list: To view your notes in a list, click .
Group notes by date
You can group notes by how recently they were created or edited (for example, Today, Yesterday, or Previous 30 Days).
Note: You can’t group by date if you’ve chosen to sort notes by title in Notes settings.
Go to the Notes app on your Mac.
Do any of the following:
Group all notes by date: Choose Notes > Settings, then select “Group notes by date.”
Group notes in the current folder by date: Choose View > Group By Date and select an option.
Change the color of links and highlights
You can change the color of links and highlights in Appearance settings on your Mac. (Changes you make there apply to links and highlights in all apps.) See Change Appearance settings.
Tip: You can also add, remove, or rearrange icons in the Notes toolbar. See Customize toolbars.
