Copy and paste text in Numbers on Mac
To quickly reuse text, copy it in one location and paste it to another. You can also copy and paste only the text style, which makes it easy to make text match other text in your spreadsheet.
Copy and paste text
Select the text to copy.
Choose Edit > Copy (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen), or press Command-C.
Note: If you want to remove the text from its original location, choose Edit > Cut instead.
Click where you want the text to appear, then do one of the following:
Paste the text with its current formatting into a new paragraph: Choose Edit > Paste, or press Command-V.
Paste and match the style of the text where you’re pasting: Choose Edit > Paste and Match Style.
You can also copy and paste objects like shapes, text boxes and images.
Copy and paste a text style
You can copy just the style of selected text and apply that style to other text.
Do one of the following:
Select the text with the style you want to copy. The style of the first character in the text selection is what’s copied. Select carefully — if the first character in your selection is a white space, the text where you paste the style is replaced by white space.
Place the insertion point in the text with the style you want to copy. Everything that you would see if you were to begin typing at the insertion point is copied. That includes any paragraph style, character style and style overrides applied to that text.
Choose Format > Copy Style (from the Format menu at the top of your screen).
Select other text where you want to apply the style, or place the insertion point in text, then choose Format > Paste Style.
If you place the insertion point in a paragraph or select full paragraphs, text boxes or shapes with text, existing paragraph or character styles are replaced with what you paste.
If you select one or more partial paragraphs (for example, one or more words in a paragraph), or a full paragraph and part of another, only character styles and not paragraph styles are applied to the selected text.
You can paste text styles from one Numbers spreadsheet to another. If the spreadsheet where you paste the style doesn’t have the style, it’s added to the character or paragraph style menu for that spreadsheet. If a style with the same name already exists, that style gets a style override. See Update or revert a paragraph style in Numbers on Mac to learn how to deal with style overrides.
Tip: You can add buttons to the toolbar for copying a style and pasting a style.
