Manage iCloud storage on Mac
When you sign in to your Apple Account and turn on iCloud, you automatically get 5 GB of free storage. You can use your iCloud storage for photos, files, backups, and more. You can increase your storage by upgrading to iCloud+. See What is iCloud+?
You can also remove items stored in iCloud to make more space available. See the Apple Support article Free up storage space on your Mac.
View, upgrade, and share iCloud storage
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click your name at the top of the sidebar.
If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in,” enter your Apple Account email address or phone number, then enter your password.
Click iCloud, click Manage, then do any of the following:
View your storage use: The storage bar at the top shows your total storage use, organized by categories.
Upgrade your storage: Click Change Storage Plan, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Share iCloud+ with your family: If you subscribe to iCloud+, click Start Family Sharing, then follow the onscreen instructions.
You can also share iCloud+ with your family in Family Subscriptions settings.
Note: If you’re in a Family Sharing group and you use the same Apple Account to share family purchases, the storage upgrade is billed to the family organizer’s account. See how an app or feature is using storage: Click an app or feature in the list.
Click Done.
Remove data that uses iCloud storage
If you need more iCloud storage space, you can either buy more storage or delete data stored in iCloud.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click your name at the top of the sidebar.
If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in,” enter your Apple Account email address or phone number, then enter your password.
Click iCloud, click Manage, then do any of the following:
Remove an iPhone or iPad backup: Click Backups in the list, select a device whose backup you don’t need, then click (below the list of backups).
WARNING: If you delete the iCloud backup for your current iPhone or iPad, iCloud stops automatically backing up the device.
Permanently remove all documents and data for an app: Click an app or feature in the list, click Delete from iCloud, then click Remove from iCloud.
The data is removed from your Mac and any device that syncs with iCloud. If you still want access, save a copy of the data before removing it from iCloud.
Note: This setting is not available for all apps and features, such as Messages or iCloud Drive. Turn the app or feature off in iCloud settings and manually delete items instead.
Turn off Siri and remove Siri-related data: Click Siri in the list, then click Turn Off and Delete from iCloud.
Click Done.
