Control what’s playing in the Apple TV app on Mac
Whether you’re watching a TV show or a movie, you’re in control.
Watch in full screen
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, choose View > Enter Full Screen.
Show or hide playback controls
While playing a movie or TV show in the Apple TV app on your Mac, move the pointer over the viewing area to show playback controls. Move the pointer outside of the viewer to hide the controls.
Control playback
When playback controls appear, the timeline shows elapsed and remaining time. The solid bar indicates how much of the item is cached (temporarily downloaded in the Apple TV app).
During playback in the Apple TV app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Play or pause: Click the center Play button or Pause button (or use the playback controls in the Touch Bar).
Skip backward or forward 10 seconds: Click the Skip Back button or Skip Forward button to jump backward or forward 10 seconds. Click again to skip another 10 seconds.
Rewind or fast-forward: Click a point on the timeline to skip directly to that location, or drag the playhead left to rewind or right to fast-forward (or use the playback controls in the Touch Bar).
Adjust volume: Click and drag the volume slider right or left to increase or decrease volume.
Choose speakers: Click the AirPlay button , then select the speakers you want to use.
You can play sound through a device that supports AirPlay or AirPlay 2, including network speakers such as HomePod mini, wireless headphones, and AirPods.
Go to another chapter: Click the Chapter button (or choose Chapters from the pull-down menu, or use the Touch Bar), then select a chapter.
Go to Extras (if available): Click the Extras button, then choose an option.
Turn on subtitles and closed captioning (if available)
While playing a movie or TV show in the Apple TV app on your Mac, click the Closed Captioning and Subtitles button in the lower-right corner, then choose an audio or subtitles option from the pop-up menu.
Choose an audio language or audio track (if available)
While playing a movie or TV show in the Apple TV app on your Mac, click the Audio Options button in the lower-right corner, then choose an audio language or audio track option from the pop-up menu.
Turn on Picture in Picture viewing
You can play items from the Apple TV app in a resizable small viewer that runs in the foreground while you do other tasks on your computer.
In the Apple TV app on your Mac, start playing a movie or TV show.
Click the Picture in Picture button in the upper-left corner of the viewer.
The item collapses into a small viewer in the upper-right corner of your screen.
Do any of the following:
Move the viewer: Click and drag the viewer to another corner of your screen.
Resize the viewer: Click any edge of the viewer, then drag to resize it.
Play or pause: Move the pointer over the viewer, then click the Play button or Pause button that appears.
Return to viewing in the Apple TV app: Move the pointer over the viewer, then click the upscale button .
Stop playback and close the viewer: Move the pointer over the viewer, then click the Close button .
Turn Spatial Audio on or off
When you watch a supported show or movie on a Mac with Spatial Audio, you can turn on Spatial Audio to create an immersive surround sound experience with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Spatial Audio uses dynamic head tracking—you hear the surround sound channels in the right place, even as you turn your head or move your computer.

To turn Spatial Audio on or off, click Control Center in the macOS menu bar, click Sound, then select Spatial Audio.
Note: Spatial Audio is only available on Mac with Apple silicon.
