Turn on Lost Mode for an AirTag or other item in Find My on Mac
If you can’t find your AirTag or third-party item, you can protect your personal data by turning on Lost Mode in the Find My app on your Mac.
To turn on Lost Mode, you must add the AirTag or other item to Find My before it’s lost. See the Apple Support article Add an AirTag to Find My to keep track of personal items.
How does Lost Mode protect an item?
When you turn on Lost Mode for an item, you can create a message that says it’s lost and how to contact you. If someone else finds your item, they can use a supported device to see a website with the message.
Turn on Lost Mode
Go to the Find My app on your Mac.
Click Items, select the item you want to mark as lost, then click on the map.
Below Lost Mode, click Enable.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
Click Activate.
You can also get notified when the item is located.
Change the phone number in the Lost Mode message
Go to the Find My app on your Mac.
Click Items, select the item you marked as lost, then click on the map.
Below Lost Mode, click Enabled.
Edit the phone number, then click Done.
If you find your lost item, you can turn off Lost Mode.
Note: Finding items isn’t available in all countries or regions.
