Share iTunes libraries on a local PC network
You can set up to five computers on a local network (such as a home Wi-Fi network) to share their iTunes libraries with each other. If a shared computer is turned on and iTunes is open, you can play that computer’s shared items on other computers in the network, but you can’t import the shared items into their libraries.
If you want to import items from iTunes libraries on other computers in your home network, you can turn on Home Sharing.
You can also share individual songs, albums, or playlists through email and Messages. Or you can copy a link or HTML code, which will open the item in Apple Music or in a web player.
Sharing is intended for personal use only.
Share your library with other computers
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Edit > Preferences, then click Sharing.
Select “Share my library on my local network.”
Select the items you want to share.
To require users to enter a password before they can see your shared items, select “Require password,” and enter a password.
You can share movies, radio station links, and certain audio files (MP3, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV, and AAC). You can’t share QuickTime sound files or programs purchased from Audible.com.
Play items from a shared library
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose a shared library from the pop-up menu at the top left.
To play an item, double-click it.
Change the name of your shared iTunes library
If you choose to share your entire library, its name appears in the Home Sharing menu on other local computers set up to look for shared libraries. You can change the name that others see.
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Edit > Preferences, then click General.
Type a new name in the Library Name field.
Turn off sharing
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Edit > Preferences, then click Sharing.
Deselect “Share my library on my local network.”
Share an individual item
In the iTunes app on your PC, choose Music from the pop-up menu at the top left.
Find a song, album, or playlist in your library or in Apple Music (if you joined Apple Music).
Select the item, then click the More button .
Select Share [item], then choose any of the sharing options:
Email: Lets you send an email with the link to a person you choose.
Messages: Lets you send a text message with the link to a person you choose.
Copy Link: Copies the link to the clipboard. When you click the link, the music opens in Apple Music.
Copy Embed Code: Copies the HTML code to the clipboard. You can paste this code into a webpage, for example, and when you click the link, the music opens in a web player.
