Connect the Apple TV Remote app
You can also control Apple TV using the Apple TV Remote app, which you can download from the App Store on an iOS or iPadOS device. If your device is running iOS 11 or earlier, see the second task below.
The controls are similar to those found in iOS or iPadOS Control Center, with additional options (see the tasks below).
Set up the Apple TV Remote app
To use the Apple TV Remote app, you must connect it to your Apple TV.
Open the Apple TV Remote app on your iOS or iPadOS device, then select your Apple TV when it appears on the screen.
When a four-digit code appears on your Apple TV, enter the code on your iOS or iPadOS device.
Set up the Apple TV Remote app on an iOS device running iOS 11 or earlier
Download the Apple TV Remote app from the App Store on your iOS device.
Make sure your Apple TV and iOS device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Open the Apple TV Remote app on your iOS device, then select your Apple TV when it appears on the screen.
When a four-digit code appears on your Apple TV, enter the code on your iOS device.
Use the app keyboard
When the onscreen keyboard appears on Apple TV, an iOS or iPadOS keyboard becomes available in the Apple TV Remote app.
Enter text in the iOS or iPadOS keyboard.
Onscreen text updates as you type. If the keyboard doesn’t appear, tap the keyboard button .
Show the Now Playing screen
The Now Playing screen in the Apple TV Remote app displays a still image of the current video along with basic playback controls.
During video playback, tap Details, and then use the built-in controls in the Apple TV Remote app to control playback. Drag down from the top of the Now Playing screen to return to the Touch area.
Switch to game mode
While playing a game using the Apple TV Remote app, tap the Game button to switch to game mode.
Hold your iOS or iPadOS device in landscape orientation and use the Touch area and buttons to play the game.
