Use the sidebar to navigate the Apple TV app
The sidebar in the Apple TV app gives you easy access to everything you want to watch and features categories such as Home, Apple TV+, MLS Season Pass, Sports, your library of purchased items from the Store, and channels and apps you’ve subscribed to or have installed on Apple TV.
Navigate in the Apple TV app using the sidebar
In the Apple TV app on Apple TV, use the remote to do any of the following when the sidebar indicator appears in the top-left corner of the screen:
Siri Remote (2nd generation or later): Press the Back button , or press up or left on the clickpad ring, or swipe up or left on the clickpad.
Siri Remote (1st generation): Press the Back button , or tap or swipe up or left on the touch surface.
Note: If you previously navigated to the right, you may have to press or swipe multiple times.
Navigate to any of the following items:
Search: Select to find TV shows and movies by title, cast, or crew. See Search in the Apple TV app.
Home: Select to go to the Apple TV app Home screen. See Explore Home in the Apple TV app.
Apple TV+: Select to go to Apple TV+, Apple’s subscription streaming service. See Apple TV+ in the Apple TV app.
MLS Season Pass: Select to go to MLS Season Pass, Apple’s Major League Soccer subscription streaming service. See MLS Season Pass in the Apple TV app.
Sports: Select to go to Sports. See Sports in the Apple TV app.
Store: Select to purchase TV shows or movies, rent movies, and subscribe to channels or connect to apps. See Store in the Apple TV app.
Library: Select to watch movies and TV shows you’ve purchased. See Library in the Apple TV app.
Channels & Apps: Select a channel you’ve recently subscribed to, or an app you’ve connected to the Apple TV app.
Switch user profiles
You can quickly switch between users in the sidebar so that each person in the household gets their own unique Up Next video list, video collections, and recommendations.
Open the sidebar in the Apple TV app on Apple TV.
In the sidebar, select a user or select Add User and follow the onscreen instructions.
When you switch to another user, the previous user is signed out on Apple TV, and the Apple TV app refreshes with the new user’s unique Up Next lists, video collections, and recommendations.

Reorder channels and apps in the sidebar
You can pin your favorite channels or apps to the top of the Channels & Apps list in the sidebar.
Open the sidebar in the Apple TV app on Apple TV.
In the sidebar, navigate to a channel or app in the Channels & Apps list, then press and hold the clickpad center (Siri Remote 2nd generation or later) or touch surface (Siri Remote 1st generation).
Do either of the following:
Move the item to the top of the Channels & Apps list: Select Pin.
If you’ve previously pinned items, the latest one appears at the bottom of the list of pinned items.
Unpin an item from the top of the Channels & Apps list: If an item you’ve selected is already pinned, select Unpin.
Temporarily hide a channel or app in the sidebar
You can hide a channel or app so it doesn’t appear in the sidebar until it’s used again.
Open the sidebar in the Apple TV app on Apple TV.
In the sidebar, navigate to a channel or app in the Channels & Apps list, then press and hold the clickpad center (Siri Remote 2nd generation or later) or touch surface (Siri Remote 1st generation).
Select Hide.
The next time you play something from this app or channel, it reappears in the sidebar.
Set which apps appear in the sidebar
In Settings, you can choose which apps you want to be connected to the Apple TV app. Apps that are connected to the Apple TV app appear in the Apple TV app sidebar.
Open Settings on Apple TV.
Go to Apps > TV, then scroll down to the Connect to TV list and choose options for each app in the list.
