Switch to the onscreen keyboard on iPad
You need to use the onscreen keyboard instead of an external keyboard to do things like type accented characters or use dictation.
Use the onscreen keyboard with Magic Keyboard for iPad or Smart Keyboard
To open the onscreen keyboard, touch and hold at the bottom right of the screen until the onscreen keyboard appears. (If you don’t see , tap the down arrow on the external keyboard.)
To hide the onscreen keyboard, tap .
Switch between Magic Keyboard and the onscreen keyboard
To use the onscreen keyboard, press on the external keyboard. To hide the onscreen keyboard, press again.
