Use Siri to search on Apple TV
Siri on Apple TV helps you quickly find movies and TV shows to watch, music and podcasts to listen to, and apps to download.
Tip: Siri understands a wide variety of phrases and search terms beyond what’s listed below. Try different queries and see what you can find.
Get recommendations based on your voice
When you set up voice recognition, you can use Siri to receive personalized recommendations or switch profiles if you have multiple users on Apple TV.
Siri: Press and hold on your remote, then say something like:
“What should I watch?”
“Play my music”
“Switch to my profile”
Search for movies, TV shows, and apps
Siri can find movies and TV shows based on a wide range of criteria—including title, topic, genre, actors, director, age appropriateness, and more.
Siri: Press and hold on your remote, then say something like:
“Find ‘Hidden Figures’”
“Play Episode 3 of Season 1 of ‘Homeland’”
“Show me popular comedies”
“Find movies starring Anne Hathaway”
“Find documentaries about cars”
“Find me movies in 4K”
“Watch great dramas”
“Find me some TV shows that are good for kids”
“Search for funny horror movies”
Tip: You can combine search terms like “funny” and “horror” to narrow down your results.
Search for podcasts
You can search specifically for podcasts by including “podcast” in your query.
Siri: Press and hold on your remote, then say something like:
“Get some funny podcasts”
“Find podcasts about surfing”
“Play ‘Radiolab’ podcast”
Apple TV begins playing the current episode right away if it’s available.
Search for apps to download
You can search for apps by app name or category.
Siri: Press and hold on your remote, then say something like:
“Find Crossy Road”
“Find weather apps”
“Show me some sports apps”
Search within a specific app
You can search directly within many apps. For example, you can search for items on YouTube by including “YouTube” in your Siri request. Siri automatically opens the YouTube app (or prompts you to install it) and adds your request to its search screen.
Siri: Press and hold on your remote, then say something like:
“Search for Coldplay on YouTube”
“Show me crafts for kids on YouTube”
“Search YouTube for Minecraft”
