Add an AirTag in Find My on iPad
In iPadOS 14.5 or later, you can register an AirTag to your Apple ID using your iPad. When you attach it to an everyday item, like a keychain or a backpack, you can use the Items tab of the Find My app 
to locate it if it’s lost or misplaced.
You can also add supported third-party products to the Items tab. See Add or update a third-party item in Find My on iPad.
Add an AirTag
Go to the Home Screen on your iPad.
Remove the battery tab from the AirTag (if applicable), then hold it near your iPad.
Tap Connect.
Choose a name from the list or choose Custom Name to type a name and select an emoji, then tap Continue.
Tap Continue to register the item to your Apple ID, then tap Finish.
You can also register an AirTag from the Find My app. Tap Items, scroll to the bottom of the Items list, tap Add New Item, then tap Add AirTag.
If the item is registered to someone else’s Apple ID, they need to remove it before you can add it. See Remove an AirTag or other item from Find My on iPad.
Change the name or emoji of an AirTag
Tap Items, then tap the AirTag whose name or emoji you want to change.
Tap Rename Item.
Choose a name from the list or choose Custom Name to type a name and select an emoji.
Tap Done.
View more details about an AirTag
When you register an AirTag to your Apple ID, you can view more details about it in the Find My app.
If you want to view details about someone else’s AirTag, see View details about an unknown item in Find My on iPad.
Tap Items, then tap the AirTag you want to see more details about.
Do any of the following:
View the battery level: A battery icon appears below the location of the AirTag. If the battery is low, you also see instructions for how to replace it.
View the serial number: Tap the battery icon to see the serial number.
View the firmware version: Tap the battery icon to see the firmware version.
