Use Apple Account Media & Purchases settings to require Touch ID or a password for free downloads and purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, and Apple TV.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click your name at the top of the sidebar.
If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in,” enter your Apple Account email address or phone number, then enter your password.
Click Media & Purchases.
Note: You must be signed in to your Apple Account in the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or Apple TV to access Media & Purchases settings.
Do any of the following:
View and update the Apple Account settings you use for purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or Apple TV: Click Manage next to Account.
View and update your current subscriptions for Apple Music, Apple News, and more: Click Manage next to Subscriptions.
Require Touch ID for free downloads and purchases: Turn on Use Touch ID for Purchases to require Touch ID to complete free downloads and purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, and Apple TV.
Require a password for free downloads and purchases: If you don’t turn on Use Touch ID for Purchases, you can choose to require a password when downloading free content, purchasing something from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or Apple TV, or making a purchase from within an app.
To set an option for free downloads, click the pop-up menu next to Free Downloads and choose Always Require or Never Require.
To set an option for purchases, click the pop-up menu next to Purchases and In-App Purchases, then choose Always Require, Never Require, or “Require after 15 minutes” to require a password only after a period of 15 minutes has elapsed since the last purchase.
