Use Messages to receive and share content with friends on iPad
When a friend shares links, images, and other content with you in the Messages app , you can find that content in a Shared with You section in supported apps. This allows you to view the content at a time that’s convenient for you. Apps that support Shared with You include Photos, Safari, News, Music, Podcasts, and TV.
Note: Content only appears in Shared with You if the friend who sent it is in your Contacts. For more information, see Create a contact.
Share content with friends
To share content from the Messages app, paste a link into your message, or tap to add photos, then tap .
To share content from another app (for example Podcasts, News, or Music), select the content you want to share, tap , then choose Messages.
See what your friends have shared with you
You can see what your friends have shared with you in your Messages conversation, or see it later in the corresponding apps:
Photos: Tap For You, then scroll to the Shared with You section. See View photos and videos shared with you on iPad.
Safari: Tap the address field, then scroll to the Shared with You section. See Open shared links in Safari.
News: Tap Following, then tap Shared with You. See Read stories shared with you.
Music: Tap Listen Now, then scroll to the Shared with You section. See Listen to music shared with you.
Podcasts: Tap Listen Now, then scroll to the Shared with You section. See View shared podcasts.
Apple TV: Tap Watch Now, then scroll to the Shared with You section.
Content that’s been shared with you previously has a button indicating who shared it. To continue the conversation without leaving the app you’re in, tap the “Shared by” label on the content and reply in Messages.
Pin shared content
If a friend shares content that is especially interesting, you can quickly pin it in Messages, and it will be elevated in the Shared with You section of supported apps, Messages search, and the Details view of the conversation.
In Messages, touch and hold a link, then tap .
Note: Photos can be saved to your library, but not pinned.
Control what shared content appears in apps
You can adjust your settings to hide an app’s Shared with You section.
Go to Settings > Messages > Shared with You.
Turn off Automatic Sharing, or turn off Shared with You for a specific app.
