Use a mobile phone to connect your Mac to the Internet
If you don’t have Internet access, you might be able to use your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to connect your Mac to the Internet at speeds up to 56 kilobits per second (Kbps). Your mobile phone service provider must allow you to use your phone as a modem.
If you have an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular models), see the documentation that came with it to set up a personal hotspot.
If your mobile phone isn’t already connected with your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.
Select your phone in the Devices list, then click Connect.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network, then click Bluetooth PAN in the list on the left.
If Bluetooth PAN isn’t available, click the Add button , click the Interface pop-up menu, then choose Bluetooth PAN.
Click the Device pop-up menu, choose your phone, then click Connect.
