Set up iCloud for Apple Books on all your devices
You can use iCloud with Apple Books on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. For an overview of what you can do with iCloud, see Keep your Apple Books library and settings up to date with iCloud.
Note: Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on each device. If you’re not signed in to your Apple Account on a device, or the device has the Apple Books feature turned off, you won’t be able to access the content stored in iCloud on the device.
Set up iCloud for Apple Books on your iPhone or iPad
On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
Make sure iCloud Drive is on. If it’s not, tap Drive (or iCloud Drive), then turn on Sync this [device].
Tap See All or Show All, then turn on Books.
Do one of the following:
iOS 18 or later: Go to Settings > Apps > Books, then turn on Home and iCloud Drive.
iOS 17 or earlier: Go to Settings > Books, then turn on Reading Now and iCloud Drive.
To view books and other information stored in iCloud, open the Apple Books app. You need to download books you purchased on other devices in order to view them on your iPhone or iPad.

Set up iCloud for Apple Books on your Mac
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click your name at the top of the sidebar.
If you don’t see your name, click “Sign in,” enter your Apple Account email address or phone number, then enter your password.
Click iCloud, click Drive (or iCloud Drive), then do one of the following:
macOS 13.3 or later: Turn on Sync this Mac. Click Apps Syncing to iCloud Drive, then turn on Books.
macOS 13 to 13.2: Click Turn On. Click the Options button, then select Books.
In the Books app, choose Books > Settings, click General, then select Reading Now and “Collections, bookmarks, and highlights.”
To view books and other information stored in iCloud, open the Books app. You need to download books you purchased on other devices in order to view them on your Mac.
