Align items on a Freeform board on Mac
Easily position and align items on your Freeform boards by using alignment guides, the dot grid, and the Arrange menu.
Turn alignment guides on or off
You can use alignment guides to help you place items precisely. When guides are turned on, they appear as you drag an item on a board in alignment with, or equidistant to, another item. You can turn the guides off and on as needed.
In the Freeform app on your Mac, choose View > Guides, then select any of the following (a checkmark next to the item indicates it’s on):
Center Guides: Guides appear when an item’s center aligns with another item’s center.
Edge Guides: Guides appear when an item’s edges align with another item’s edges.
Relative Sizing: Guides appear when an item matches another item’s size in a particular dimension (for example, height).
Relative Spacing: Guides appear when three or more items are placed equally apart in a line.
Use Haptic Feedback: As you move items using an Apple trackpad or Magic Mouse, you feel tactile feedback when the items are correctly aligned (according to any of the above methods).
Turn the background dot grid on or off
You can display a grid of dots on a board to more easily line up items. You need to turn this setting on for each board where you want to see the grid.
In the Freeform app on your Mac, click a category in the sidebar, then double-click a board to open it.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
Do one of the following:
Show the dot grid: Click (or choose View > Show Grid).
Hide the dot grid: Click (or choose View > Hide Grid).
Align items on a board
You can align items on your Freeform board so they’re evenly spaced.
In the Freeform app on your Mac, click a category in the sidebar, then double-click a board to open it.
If you don’t see the sidebar, choose View > Show Sidebar.
If an item is locked, you need to click the Unlock button before you can align it.
Do any of the following:
Align multiple items vertically or horizontally: Choose Arrange > Align Objects, then choose an option.
Equally space three or more items: Choose Arrange > Distribute Objects, then choose an item.
Tip: You can also click the Arrange Inspector button to align and distribute items on the board.
