Change project settings in iMovie on Mac
iMovie has a number of settings that you can customize for your project. You can set the theme used by the project, apply a filter effect to the project, and more.
In the iMovie app on your Mac, click Settings in the upper-right corner of the timeline.
The project settings appear. At the top of the project settings, you can see the resolution your project is set to (based on the first clip added to the timeline).
Do any of the following:
Choose a theme for your movie: Click the Theme button, click a theme, and then click Change.
Remove the theme from your movie: Click the Theme button, click No Theme, and then click Change.
Have iMovie automatically add titles and transitions to your movie: Select the “Automatic content” checkbox.
Apply a filter to all the clips in your project: Click the Filter button, and then click a filter.
Automatically trim background music to fit the length of your movie: Select the “Trim background music” checkbox.
Automatically fade in from black at the start of your movie: Select the “Fade in from black” checkbox.
Automatically fade out to black at the end of your movie: Select the “Fade out to black” checkbox.
Set the size of the clips in the timeline: Drag the Clip Size slider left to decrease the size of clips, or right to increase the size.
Show audio waveforms below your clips: Select the Show Waveforms checkbox.
When you’re finished, click outside the project settings to dismiss them.
