Import projects created on iPhone or iPad into iMovie on Mac
You can import a project that has been shared from iMovie for iOS or iPadOS. After you import the shared project, you can edit it the same way you edit any other project. For more information, see the iMovie User Guide for iPhone or the iMovie User Guide for iPad.
Note: If you import a project that contains high-dynamic-range (HDR) media, it’s automatically tone mapped to standard dynamic range (SDR). Tone mapping remaps the wider range of brightness values in HDR images to a narrower range of brightness values that can be shown on SDR displays. Tone mapping affects only the display of the HDR clips in your project—not the source media in your library.
In the iMovie app
on your Mac, choose File > Import iMovie iOS Projects.Navigate to the location of the project you shared from iMovie for iOS or iPadOS, and select it.
If you have more than one library open in iMovie, click the Library pop-up menu at the bottom of the window and choose the library you want to import the project into.
Click Import.
You can see the progress of the import in the dialog that appears. To cancel the import, click the Cancel button

Note: If you import a project that uses a Magic Movie or storyboard theme that is not included with iMovie on your Mac, the imported project uses the default iMovie for Mac movie theme.
Note: It is possible that if you are using the most recent version of iMovie on iPhone or iPad, you may get an error message that the project cannot be imported.
