What is an Apple ID?
An Apple ID gives you access to the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store, and iCloud, FaceTime, and other Apple services. It consists of an email address (for example, emilyparker@icloud.com) and a password. Apple recommends you use the same Apple ID for all Apple services. For more information about Apple ID, see the Apple Support article Frequently Asked Questions.
You can create an Apple ID on a Mac, an iOS device, or at the Apple ID account website. You should use the same Apple ID on your Mac, iOS devices, Apple TV, and Windows computer, and to access the iCloud.com website. For more information, see the Apple Support article Sign in with your Apple ID.
Create an Apple ID
You can create an Apple ID using a new @icloud email address that’s generated for you or using your current email address:
Using a new @icloud email address: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud. When a dialog appears asking you to sign into iCloud, click “Create an Apple ID,” then follow the onscreen instructions.

Note: If you’re already signed in using an Apple ID, you must sign out before you can create a new Apple ID this way.
Using an existing email address: Go to the Apple ID account website, click “Create your Apple ID,” then follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: In China, you can use a phone number instead of an email address as your Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple Support article Use your phone number as your Apple ID in China.
To keep your purchases and access to Apple services secure, don’t share your Apple ID and password with others. To share your purchases with family members, you can set up a Family Sharing group with up to six members of your family. For more information, see Set up Family Sharing.
For information about using an Apple ID using an iOS device, see the Apple ID section of the user guide for iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
