Record to a cell in GarageBand for iPhone
You can record to a cell, using the Touch Instrument for the row in which the cell is located.
When you record to a cell, other cells playing when recording starts continue playing, but any tracks playing in Tracks view stop playing. The ruler shows the units of time for the cell, not for a song section.
If the cell is already filled, the new recording replaces the existing one. For the Keyboard, Drums, Sampler, Guitar, and Bass, you can merge new recordings with existing ones by turning on Merge Recordings in the track controls.
Note: You can’t record to a Drummer cell.

Do one of the following:
Tap the cell, then tap Record from the shortcut menu.
Double-tap the cell.
The Touch Instrument for the cell’s row opens. If the cell is in an empty row, the last-used Touch Instrument opens, and becomes the Touch Instrument for the cell’s row. If no cell has been used, double-tapping shows the Edit menu.
To start recording, tap the Record button in the control bar.
Play the Touch Instrument.
The notes you play, and any changes to knobs, sliders, and other controls, are recorded.
To finish recording, tap the Record button again.
