Add or modify Quartz filters in ColorSync Utility on Mac
Use ColorSync Utility to add a new filter or modify an existing filter to customize the color in a file.
Add a new filter
Go to the ColorSync Utility app on your Mac.
Click Filters in the toolbar of the ColorSync Utility window.
Click in the lower-left corner of the window, enter a name for the filter, then press the Return key.
Click to the right of the filter’s name, then choose an option:
Add Color Management Component: Choose an item from this submenu to add color modifications to your filter. Choose a default profile for files without a color profile.
Add Image Effects Component: Choose an item from this submenu to change the size, bit depth, interpolation, and compression settings for the images in your file.
Add PDF Retouch Component: Choose an item from this submenu to set how monochrome data is encoded, whether images are interpolated, and whether to create PDF/X-3 documents.
Add Domain Information: Choose this item to specify where the filter can be used. The filter can be used in apps, PDF workflows, or the Print dialog.
Add Comments: Choose this item to enter a comment about the filter.
When you add a filter, you can prevent it from being edited accidentally by clicking . To edit the filter, click again.
To remove a filter, click Filters in the toolbar of the ColorSync Utility window, click the filter you want to remove, then click .
Modify a filter
Go to the ColorSync Utility app on your Mac.
Click Filters in the toolbar of the ColorSync Utility window.
Click to the left of the filter.
Click to the left of the filter component, then change the settings to modify the filter.
Note: If the filter has next to it, you can’t edit that filter. You can, however, copy a locked filter and edit the copy. Click to the left of .
