Over the period from 2013 to 2023, the Finnish government run a constant budget deficit. In 2023, the general government deficit amounted to roughly 8.2 billion euros according to preliminary figures. Initially, the general government surplus reached a high of approximately 9.6 billion euros in 2007, before falling to a deficit from 2009 onwards.
