NBC Sports’ 2024 NFL Draft Coverage Continues This Week Across NBC Sports Platforms

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 23, 2024 – With the NFL Draft two days away, beginning this Thursday, April 25, NBC Sports’ Chris Simms has released his first-round mock draft on the Chris Simms Unbuttoned podcast.

Simms, a third-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2003 NFL Draft who played eight NFL seasons, was joined by NBC Sports’ Connor Rogers on Simms Unbuttoned to offer evaluation, insight and analysis on the draft’s top prospects and each team’s needs heading into the draft. Simms’ first-round mock draft features quarterbacks being taken with each of the top three picks – USC’s Caleb Williams at No. 1, LSU’s Jayden Daniels at No. 2, and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy at No. 3 – and six quarterbacks being drafted within the top 13 picks.

On draft night, Simms and co-host Ahmed Fareed will record instant reaction videos to every pick in Round 1, with the full podcast released overnight. A bonus draft recap/reaction episode of Simms Unbuttoned will be available Monday, April 29.

Quarterbacks:

Simms on Caleb Williams to the Bears at No. 1: “This is done. He’s extremely talented. When you look at Chicago and go back to the GM (Ryan Poles), the fact that he came from Kansas City, he’s seeing this guy who’s got some of the (Patrick) Mahomes-ish types of traits. It’s a no-brainer.”

On Jayden Daniels to the Commanders at No. 2: “I look at Washington as a place, like Mahomes to Kansas City, (Joe) Burrow to the Bengals, or even C.J. Stroud to Houston, where they haven’t had ‘The Guy’ in a long time. You can be that guy there.”

On discussions surrounding the second pick: “I had somebody that I really trust and connected to the situation text me and say, ‘It will not be Drake Maye at No. 2.”

On discussions surrounding the third pick: “I think New England wants to trade out of there. They have to take a quarterback…but I don’t think they’re comfortable taking any of these guys at No. 3.”

On J.J. McCarthy to the Vikings via trade at No. 3: “I think Minnesota’s desperate. They’re going to get somebody in there that they feel like can run their offense…I certainly think J.J. McCarthy fits Kevin O’Connell’s offense. Play-action game, crossers over the middle, that’s what J.J. did at Michigan.”

On Drake Maye to the Patriots via trade at No. 11: “This is a spot where he can develop. I don’t think they’re comfortable with him at No. 3 … (Head coach) Jerod Mayo, at the NFL Owners Meeting (in March), bringing up that Drake Maye is raw and has some things to work on – that was my first big signal.”

On Bo Nix to the Broncos at No. 12: “The more time has gone on, the more I’ve liked him. The decision-making, the throwing, he really can play the position. (Head coach) Sean Payton needs somebody that can play now.”

On Michael Penix Jr. to the Raiders at No. 13: “The pure talent is there. He was made to throw that football with his left hand…I think he’s ready to go and you can start a new era there.”

Wide receivers:

On Marvin Harrison Jr. to the Cardinals at No. 4: “The floor is very high with him. Safe pick, good pedigree – he has all the skills and is a damn good player. I know he’s not my No. 1 receiver but he’s good and that’s why I’m feeling him going No. 4.”

On Malik Nabers to the Giants at No. 6: “To me, it’s the most glaring thing on the Giants roster – they don’t have someone that can make guys miss. I think Nabers all the way here and that would be awesome for the Giants to add him to the Daniel Jones tool set.”

On Rome Odunze to the Bengals at No. 18: “Everybody likes Odunze, I just think everybody likes him in a different area.”

On Adonai Mitchell to the Ravens at No. 30: “Size and speed, (the Ravens) don’t really have a guy like him. I think it’s a little bit more of a look at the future and a little bit more of a dependability pick here.”

Tight end:

On Brock Bowers to the Colts at No. 15: “Bowers fits a lot of things there. He’s extremely talented and I honestly thought about a lineman here, but I just felt like Bowers is the right fit for the Colts and how they’re going to run their offense.”

Offensive Line:

On T Joe Alt to the Chargers at No. 5: “It’s (head coach Jim Harbaugh’s) first pick in his first draft – Notre Dame tackle, you can’t go wrong. Alt is definitely one of the safest picks in the draft.”

Defense:

On EDGE Dallas Turner to the Falcons at No. 8: “Dallas Turner has some traits about him that are very, very special. Another guy that I’d say could be a superstar but has a very high floor, too…He might not be what we think he might be, but I don’t think the word ‘bust’ will be a part of the conversation.”

On EDGE Laitu Latu to the Bears at No. 9: “You know what’ll help a young quarterback? When the other team only scores nine points and you just have to score 10 to win. The guy is such a good player, and he fits right into a need for this team.”

On DT Byron Murphy II to the Saints at No. 14: “For me, without a doubt, one of the best players in this draft. The Saints need some difference-making, young studs on defense and that’s why I think they stick with (defensive) tackle at this pick.”

On CB Quinyon Mitchell to the Eagles via trade at No. 16: “I think you could argue this is the best player in the draft. Good corners are not easy to find. This guy is special, and I think the Eagles are going to make a move here with their embarrassment of riches.”

‘The Gentleman’ captured the WBO World Title in May 2023 with a memorable win over former stablemate Lawrence Okolie, downing the undefeated champion three times en route to having his hand raised in front of his home fans at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth. 

Riakporhe will get his long-awaited shot at world honours in front of his fellow ‘Eagles’ as the Crystal Palace fan fights at South London’s historic Selhurst Park stadium.

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 18, 2024 – 100m world champions Sha’Carri Richardson, Fred Kerley, and Christian Coleman headline NBC Sports’ live coverage of the Diamond League season opener from Xiamen Egret Stadium in Xiamen, China, this Saturday, April 20, at 7 a.m. ET on Peacock.

Richardson headlines the 200m field in what will be her 2024 outdoor debut after a breakout 2023 season that saw her capture three medals at her first-ever World Championships (1st – 100m, 1st – 4x100m gold, 3rd – 200m bronze). Richardson, aiming to make her first Olympic team this summer, will line up against her fellow gold medal-winning 4x100m relay teammates, Tamara Clark and Twanisha Terry.

Coleman, the 2019 100m world champion and reigning 60m indoor world champion, and Kerley, the 2022 100m world champion, headline a competitive 100m field that also includes compatriot and Tokyo Olympian Ronnie Baker, four-time Olympic medalist Yohan Blake (Jamaica), and 2023 world 4x100m relay bronze medalist Ackeem Blake (Jamaica). In their careers, Kerley is 3-1 against Coleman in the 100m; their most recent showdown was at last year’s Xiamen Diamond League, where Coleman edged Kerley, 9.83 to 9.96.

Xiamen will feature a world-class field, with multiple reigning Olympic champions expected to compete this weekend: Valarie Allman (United States, discus), Mondo Duplantis (Sweden, pole vault), Peruth Chemutai (Uganda, steeplechase), Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (Puerto Rico, 100m hurdles), Mutaz Barsham (Qatar, high jump), Pedro Pichardo (Portugal, triple jump), Hansle Parchment (Jamaica, 110m hurdles), and Gong Lijiao (shot put), competing in front of her home crowd.

Additionally, the U.S. will be represented by two-time world pole vault champion and Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sam Kendricks, 2016 Rio Olympic 800m bronze medalist Clayton Murphy, reigning world 110m hurdles bronze medalist Daniel Roberts, Tokyo Olympic pole vault silver medalist Chris Nilsen, North American 400m indoor world record holder Britton Wilson, and more.

NBC Sports’ Paul Swangard will call the event, joined by four-time Olympic medalist Ato Boldon and 2012 London Olympic decathlon silver medalist Trey Hardee.

NBC Sports will present more than 60 hours of exclusive live coverage of the Diamond League this season across NBC, Peacock, and CNBC, including 30+ hours of live coverage streaming on Peacock. All 15 meets will be presented live on Peacock. The Prefontaine Classic will also be broadcast live on NBC, and each of the other stops will air on CNBC either live or as an encore.

INDYCAR: GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH

The 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season continues with live coverage of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock. Pre-race coverage leads into race coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET, while post-race coverage will be presented immediately following the conclusion of the race. Reigning and two-time INDYCAR champion Alex Palou is part of a star-studded group of drivers in the series’ paddock that includes six-time champion Scott Dixon and reigning Indianapolis 500 champion and 2024 points standings leader Josef Newgarden. Palou won last month’s THERMAL $1 Million Challenge, with Scott McLaughlin and Felix Rosenqvist rounding out the podium.

MONSTER ENERGY SUPERCROSS: NASHVILLE

The 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship series and Monster Energy Supercross season continues with Round 14 this weekend from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday live at 7 p.m. ET on Peacock.

Last week at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., Cooper Webb moved into a tie with Jett Lawrence for the 450SX Class standings lead (261 pts) with his fourth win of the year, with the duo now 15 points ahead of third-place Chase Sexton (246 pts). STAMFORD, Conn. – April 17, 2024 – Following this morning’s USA Men’s National Team roster reveal by USA Basketball, NBC Sports today announced that Noah Eagle will serve as the play-by-play voice for Team USA men’s and women’s basketball games and medal round competition at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris this summer. NBC Sports’ analysts and reporters for these games will be announced in the coming weeks.

Team USA games (and the medal rounds) will be presented across NBC, Peacock, and USA Network, with specific platforms to be announced at a later date.

“Noah has excelled on many high-profile events, including as our lead Big Ten voice, and NBA and college basketball games. We are excited to hear him call Team USA’s quest for gold in both the men’s and women’s tournaments this summer,” said Rebecca Chatman, Vice President and Coordinating Producer, NBC Olympics Production.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry will play together for the first time for Team USA, which opens play on Sunday, July 28 (vs. Serbia), while the U.S. women’s team (roster to be announced at a later date) tips off its slate the next day, Monday, July 29 (vs. Japan). With the sport’s continued rapid growth globally, this summer’s basketball tournaments are expected to have the deepest pool of talented players and most competitive fields in any Olympics.

Team USA basketball will be Eagle’s second NBC Olympics assignment, as he called 3×3 Basketball three years ago for the Tokyo Olympics. This past NBA season, he called select Brooklyn Nets games for YES Network and previously served as the radio voice of the Los Angeles Clippers for four seasons.

Eagle, who last week earned a Sports Emmy nomination following his first season as the play-by-play voice of the Big Ten Saturday Night football package on NBC and Peacock, handled Big Ten men’s basketball on Peacock this past season. He also called a 2023 NFL regular season game for NBC Sports and worked on the Sports Emmy-nominated NFL Playoffs on NBC/Peacock in January and Nickelodeon’s telecast of Super Bowl LVIII in February.

Team USA Roster and Schedules

As part of the U.S. men’s roster announcement, USA Basketball and NBC co-produced a video, featuring Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award-winning artist Common. The team is led by four-time NBA champion, four-time NBA MVP, and NBA all-time scoring leader LeBron James, playing in his first Olympics since London 2012, and two-time NBA Finals MVP and 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant, in pursuit of his fourth Olympic gold medal, which would be a record in men’s basketball. Four-time NBA champion, two-time NBA MVP, and all-time leader in three pointers Stephen Curry, and reigning NBA MVP and two-time NBA scoring leader Joel Embiid are both set to make their Olympic debuts.

The 12-man roster for USA has won a combined 10 Olympic gold medals, three FIBA World Cup titles, eight NBA MVP awards and 14 NBA championships, and account for 84 All-Star selections and 33 All-NBA First Team selections.

The U.S. men’s team will be led by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who makes his Olympic head coaching debut. Kerr, who won five NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs during his playing career, has won four titles as head coach of the Warriors since 2014. He previously served as an assistant coach on the gold medal-winning team in Tokyo. Assisting him in Paris will be two-time NBA champion and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue (an NBA champion as head coach with the 2016 Cavaliers and as a player with the 2000 and 2001 Lakers), and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few.

The U.S. men will begin their campaign for a fifth consecutive gold medal on Sunday, July 28 when they take on Serbia, which is expected to be led by two-time NBA MVP and defending NBA champion Nikola Jokic. Later that week, on Wednesday, July 31, Team USA faces South Sudan, likely starring Duke commit Khaman Maluach, who is widely considered one of the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The U.S. women, whose roster will be announced by USA Basketball at a later date, begin their quest for an unprecedented eighth consecutive gold medal on Monday, July 29, against Tokyo Olympic runners-up Japan. The seven consecutive gold medals won by the Team USA women is tied with the Team USA men (1936-68) for the most by any country in a team sport in the Olympics.

The U.S. women’s team will be led by six-time WNBA champion coach Cheryl Reeve, who won four titles as head coach of the Minnesota Lynx and two as an assistant with the Detroit Shock. A three-time WNBA Coach of the Year and the 2019 WNBA Basketball Executive of the Year, Reeve previously served as an assistant on the gold medal-winning teams in Tokyo and Rio. Assisting her in Paris will be Duke head coach, 2008 Beijing gold medalist basketball player, and Tokyo Olympic 3×3 basketball gold medalist head coach Kara Lawson, Texas A&M head coach Joni Taylor, and 2019 WNBA champion head coach Mike Thibault, who won a gold medal in Beijing in 2008 as an assistant coach on the women’s team.

All preliminary round games will be played at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, outside of Paris, while the knockout rounds will be played at Bercy Arena in the capital city.

Each team will play the other three teams in its group and will earn two points for a win, one point for a loss, and zero points for a loss by forfeit. At the end of the group phase, the top two teams in each group will automatically advance to the quarterfinals, with the two best third-place teams also moving on. From there, the tournament will move to a single-elimination format.

12 countries qualify for the Olympic tournament. On the men’s side, they are: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Serbia, South Sudan, and the United States. The four remaining spots will be determined at the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in July.

On the women’s side, all 12 spots have been filled: Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, and the United States.

In Paris this summer, the world’s greatest athletes will compete against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful cities in the world where the modern Olympic Games were conceived 130 years ago. This will be the third time Paris has hosted the Olympics (1900 and 1924), tying London for the most as a Summer Games host. Los Angeles (1932, 1984) will tie those two cities when it hosts the first Summer Games in the U.S. in 32 years in 2028.

The organizers of Paris 2024 are reimagining the Games to make them more accessible to the public and to showcase their city to the world. In a first, competitions will be held amidst iconic Parisian landmarks – beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower, equestrian at the Palace of Versailles, and urban sports at Place de la Concorde.

Wrestling Coverage Continues NBC Sports’ Record Coverage of U.S. Olympic Team Trials Ahead of Paris Olympics

STAMFORD, Conn. – April 16, 2024 – NBC Sports presents live coverage of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling with over 60 hours of live coverage across Peacock and USA Network over two days from the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University in State College, Pa., beginning on Peacock this Friday, April 19, with all four mats from Session 1 at 10 a.m. ET. Live coverage of the Wrestling Trials concludes on Saturday, April 20, with the finals at 6:30 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, Peacock will individually stream all four mats for both morning sessions, as well as a quad box option for each. Additionally, the Challenge Tournament will be presented on USA Network and Peacock on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET, with the Finals on Saturday also on USA Network and Peacock on 6:30 p.m. ET. All Olympic Trials coverage this weekend will also stream via NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.

Wrestling is one of the oldest known Olympic sports and was first introduced at the Ancient Olympic Games in 708 BC. At the time, wrestling was one of the most widely-practiced and popular sports in the region, with athletes such as six-time champion Milo of Croton and five-time champion Hipposthenes of Sparta’s achievements becoming the feats of legend. Greco-Roman wrestling first appeared on the Olympic program in 1896 at the first modern Olympic Games, but only one bout was held. Freestyle wrestling debuted a few years later at the 1904 St. Louis Games, and both forms of wrestling have been featured on every Olympic program since 1920. Women’s wrestling was introduced at the 2004 Athens Games.

The U.S. topped the wrestling medal standings at the Tokyo Games (nine) and is poised to continue its success in Paris. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Wrestling are expected to feature four individual reigning world champions, including Tokyo Olympic men’s 86 kg gold medalist David Taylor as well as hopeful first-time Olympians Amit Elor (competing at Trials in the women’s freestyle 68 kg), and Zain Retherford (competing in men’s freestyle 65 kg). Additionally on the men’s side, Tokyo Olympic men’s freestyle 74 kg bronze medalist and four-time world champion Kyle Dake aims to make his second Olympic team, while Rio Olympic 97 kg gold medalist and Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Snyder – who, in 2016, became the youngest American wrestler ever to win Olympic gold at age 20 – aims to qualify for his third Olympic team. Jordan Burroughs, 2012 London Olympic gold medalist at 74 kg, also looked to make his third Olympic team and first since Rio 2016.

On the women’s side, Rio Olympic 53 kg gold medalist and Tokyo Olympic 57 kg bronze medalist Helen Maroulis, Tokyo Olympic 76 kg silver medalist Adeline Gray, and Tokyo Olympic 50 kg bronze medalist Sarah Hildebrandt are some of the top names who will be competing to qualify for Paris. Tokyo Olympians Jacarra Winchester and Kayla Miracle are also expected to be in the mix for spots in their respective weight classes.

NBC Sports’ Jason Knapp will call the event, joined by analyst and 1988 U.S. Olympic wrestler Jim Scherr, a former U.S. Olympic Committee CEO, and reporter Zora Stephenson.
