The Seychelles are a small island nation in the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles are located between approximately 4ºS and 10ºS and 46ºE and 54ºE.
The inner islands consist of 41 islands, which are arranged around the main islands of MahéPraslin and La Digue, some of whose peaks are almost 1,000 m high. There are also 2 low-lying coral islands, Denis Island and Bird Island.
There are two distinct regions, the granite islands, the world's only oceanic islands made of granite rock, and the coral-like outer islands. The granite islands are the oldest oceanic islands in the world, while the outer islands are mostly very young. However, the Aldabra Group and St. Pierre (Farquhar Group) are unusual, sublime coral islands that have risen and fallen several times over their long history, most recently about 125,000 years ago.
