Beasley Media Alternative “Alt 92.9” WBOS Brookline/Boston will add the Dave & Chuck The Freak morning show based at sister Rock 101.1 WRIF Detroit.
Dave Hunter, Chuck ‘The Freak’ Urquhart and Lisa Way have been at WRIF since May 2013 after previously hosting mornings at Bell Media Alternative “89X” 88.7 CIMX Windsor ON/Detroit from 2001-2012. The show will debut on WBOS on Monday, July 24.
Beasley Media Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Beasley Broadcast Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBGI) announces the company’s Detroit-based WRIF-FM Dave & Chuck the Freak Morning Show will now be simulcast on ALT 92.9 /WBOS-FM in Boston beginning on Monday, July 24th, 2017.
The consistently rated #1 award winning morning show will be heard in both markets from 5:30am-10:30am Monday-Friday.
The Dave & Chuck the Freak Morning Show, known for its unique style of humor and banter, along with heavy social media interaction with fans, will provide wicked laughs and entertainment weekday mornings for Boston listeners.
Dave Hunter and Charles Urquhart (along with show member Lisa Way) began working together in April of 2001 on Windsor, Canada’s 89X (CIMX 88.7 FM) until November of 2012. The show officially debuted on the WRIF-FM airwaves in May of 2013. Since then, they’ve added Cohost Andy Green, Producer James Campbell and Video Editor Jason Watson.
“We have been eager to expand Dave & Chuck’s content beyond Detroit and I couldn’t be more thrilled that it all starts in Boston,” said Beasley Media Group Executive Vice President of Programming Justin Chase. “This is a market where their genre of show has been very successful in the past and I’m certain Boston will love D&C!”
“We are continually amazed at how far the show has progressed over the years, and are so excited to take it to the next level on ALT 92.9 in Boston,” said Dave Hunter. “We love the city and can’t wait to get some Boston folks on the air with us every morning.”
“The Dave & Chuck the Freak show is both funny and relatable, and its cast is made up of masterful storytellers with an eye for the extraordinary,” said Beasley Media Boston Director of Programming Cadillac Jack. “When you combine their natural talent, great chemistry, and impeccable work ethic, the results are unparalleled, and we’re especially excited to welcome them to ALT 92.9!”
This represents a change in direction for WBOS-92.9, as in recent times, they’ve emphasized music and de-emphasized personality.
Is this the beginning of truly national syndication for “Dave and Chuck The Freak”??
And is this also the beginning of more Beasley stations picking-up syndicated morning shows??
(I could actually see one of Beasley’s local shows here in Boston—David O’Leary and Sue Tabb at WMJX-106.7—go into national syndication. The Adult Contemporary format doesn’t have any major nationally-syndicated morning shows, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Beasley launches O’Leary and Tabb into syndication)
So I guess Bob and Sheri does not count as a major nationally syndicated morning show.
KRVE Baton Rouge’s Murphy, Sam, & Jodi, too, which has a handful of non-iHeart affiliates
I second Bob & Sheri–and would likely also count Murphy, Sam & Jodi.
(Ironically, Bob & Sheri’s home base is the formerly Greater Media-owned WLNK–which was spun off to Entercom because of market-cap issues in the wake of the Beasley deal.)
So…Bob & Sheri didn’t pop up on your radar?
