Abstract

A solid state x-ray source ( ) for a computed tomograph (CT) imaging system ( ) is presented. X-ray source ( ) has a cathode ( ) which is preferably formed of a plurality of addressable elements. The cathode is positioned within a vacuum chamber ( ) so that electrodes emitted thereby impinge upon anode ( ) spaced apart from cathode ( ). An electron beam ( ) is formed and moved along the length of cathode ( ). The anode ( ) is disposed within a cooling block portion ( ) and operatively adjacent to an x-ray transmissive window ( ). The anode ( ) and x-ray transmissive window ( ) are disposed within an elongated channel ( ) of the cooling block portion ( ).

Claim

What is claimed is: 1. An X-ray source assembly comprising: a vacuum housing; a cold cathode emitter disposed within said housing; a cooling block having a beam opening therethrough; an X-ray transmissive window disposed within said beam opening; and a stationary anode disposed within said housing spaced apart from said emitter and thermally coupled to said cooling block, said anode comprised of a thin metallic film. 2. An X-ray source assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said X-ray transmissive window is composed of a carbon-based material. 3. An X-ray source assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said X-ray transmissive window is electrically conductive. 4. An X-ray source assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said X-ray transmissive window is electrically coupled to said cooling block. 5. An X-ray source assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said cooling block comprises a cooling tube extending therethrough. 6. An X-ray source assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein said anode is disposed on said window. 7.

Molecular dipolar rotors comprising a base, an axle connected to said base and oriented substantially perpendicular to said base, and a rotor portion having an electric dipole moment are provided. The molecular dipolar rotors may be attached to a surface. Arrays of molecular dipolar rotors attached to surfaces are provided. Molecular dipolar rotors are useful in preparation of small devices.

Claim

We claim: 1. A molecular dipolar rotor comprising: a base; an axle connected to said base and oriented substantially perpendicular to said base; a rotor portion connected to said axle and having an electric dipole moment. 2. The dipolar rotor of claim 1, wherein the electric dipole moment of the rotor portion is substantially in the plane perpendicular to the axle. 3. The dipolar rotor of claim 2, wherein the electric dipole moment of the portion is greater than 2 debye. 4. The dipolar rotor of claim 1, further comprising: a bearing connecting the axle and the rotor portion. 5. The dipolar rotor of claim 4, wherein said bearing is a metal-to-&pgr;-face bond. 6. The dipolar rotor of claim 1, wherein said base is covalently attached to a surface. 7. The dipolar rotor of claim 1, wherein said base is a carbon atom. 8. Systems and methods for obtaining multi-slice images having a total thickness of up to about 160 mm or more in a single gantry rotation in computed tomography or volume computed tomography are described. Abstract

A metal sheet punch device for metal sheets which includes a longitudinally extended frame having forward and rearward ends and alignment devices for aligning the frame on a metal sheet. At least two metal punch devices are mounted on the frame, each including a metal punch support structure movably mounted on the frame and a metal punch having a pointed lower end, the metal punch mounted on the underside of the metal punch support arm structure. Abstract

An electron emitter assembly and a method for adjusting a size of electron beams are provided. The electron emitter assembly includes a laser configured to emit a first light beam. The electron emitter assembly further includes a lens assembly configured to receive the first light beam. The lens assembly is configured to adjust a size of the first light beam between a first predetermined size and a second predetermined size larger than the first predetermined size. The lens assembly emits the first light beam toward a photo-cathode. The photo-cathode is configured to emit a first electron beam having a third predetermined size when the first light beam having the first predetermined size contacts the photo-cathode. The photo-cathode is further configured to emit a second electron beam having a fourth predetermined size when the first light beam having the second predetermined size contacts the photo-cathode. The electron emitter assembly further includes an anode configured to receive the first and second electrons beams from the photo-cathode.
