GACEC Partnering with Delaware YMCA to Host Resource Fair

Governor's Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens | Date Posted: Tuesday, October 1, 2024

Disability History and Awareness Month Resource Fair on October 24th, 2024. Event will take place from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Dover YMCA

On August 11, 2011 Governor Jack Markell signed House Bill 123, which proclaimed the month of October to be Disability History and Awareness Month in Delaware.  The bill encourages all schools during the month of October to provide instruction and events focusing on disability history, individuals with disabilities and the disability rights movement.

The Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens (GACEC) is partnering with the Delaware YMCA to host a resource fair on October 24, 2024 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Dover YMCA.  The goal is for Delawareans to learn more about disability resources, recognize the contributions of people with disabilities to our communities, and to actively participate in inclusion efforts throughout our state.  If you have any questions, or are interested in becoming a vendor at this event, please email kathie.cherry@delaware.gov or call the GACEC office at (302)739-4553.  Help us spread the word to honor Disability History and Awareness Month and come out and see us at the resource fair on October 24th.

Visit our website and follow us on our facebook page for updates and more information.  Also, be on the lookout for more details about GACEC’s Disability History and Awareness Month poster contest.  Our theme this year is “Share our Similarities.  Celebrate our Differences.”
