Nationalism and patriotism mutually show the relationship and affiliation of an individual towards his or her nation. Nationalism means to give more importance to unity by way of a cultural background, including language and heritage.
Patriotism pertains to attachment to a homeland.
The love and adoration for the place where an individual is born, brought up, and the nation that place belongs to. These attachments can be related to ethnic, cultural, political or historical.
A broad range of practices have been adopted by nations to inculcate patriotism in its individuals.
A military parade, dramas showing history or brave acts of national heroes, cultural programmes, national anthems and patriotic songs always stimulates the feelings of love, pride, commitment and loyalty of individuals for its nation.
Recently, on 6 September 2021, ISPR has released “Mader-e-Meherban”, a video highlighting another angle of love to our “Gracious Motherland”; how we are passing on the spirit of patriotism from one generation to the next. Not only our values and traditions, but also our deep respect and love for this country we call Pakistan.
As this love is passed on from a father or mother to their son or daughter, we showcase that the next generation wears this badge of loyalty on their chest with pride.
The music video consists of two generations of musicians not only passing on their craft to the next generation, but also what they hold closest to their heart…Pakistan.
They include Shafqat Amanat Ali and his son Sadaat Ali Khan, Sajjid Ali and his daughter Zaw Ali and Abida Parveen and her son Sarang Latif. The song is written by Amjad Islam Amjad and composed by Sahir Ali Bagga.
“Mader-e-Meherban” is a beautifully composed song with a duration of 4 minutes 14 seconds.
It is full of praises for our gracious motherland and besides passing our love and craft to next generations this song gives three distinct messages to its viewers.
The initial part of the song shows a second generation army officer surprising his father while the message is clear; we are the custodians of borders of our homeland and capable to hedge against any adventurism by our enemies.
The middle part of the song displays a convocation ceremony of a young girl and the pleasure of her proud parents. This part gives an important message about our identity; whatever we are, it is because of our beloved country and our survival depends on survival of our motherland. The last part shows a girl copying her father while painting picture of Quaid e Azam with Pakistani flag.
This part signifies the meaning of star and crescent in our green flag; star symbolizes peace while crescent represents education and the relationship between both depicts our national motto i.e. Faith, Unity and Discipline.
Meder-e-Meherban is therefore, not only a beautifully sung song by very famous singers of Pakistan along with their next generation but also gives exquisite messages and raises spirit of patriotism among its viewers.
