Ishino Yoko (born: February 20, 1968) was an idol singer active in the second half of 1980s.  She is the younger sister of Ishino Mako, a popular late 1970s idol. 

She was born as second daughter of three sisters (Ishino Mako is the oldest sister 7 years older than her, there's a youngest sister who later also became actress). Her parents owned a handbag company. She grew up in a wealthy family in a 10 rooms big two-stories house with big garden ( Japanese style garden + western style garden + a pond, source: wikipedia). In kindergarten, she had a weak body and shy, she only played in the garden with her best friend: a st. bernard dog named "Buzz". To improve her physicality, her parents made her train figure skating, which she won a competition and became her special skill (*which later came in handy when she played a drama about skating). 

When she was in her first year of high school, she visited her sister drama filming site and was made to play as extra with the role of a passerby. From there, she got scouted. At first, she had no interest in entertainment and wanted to become a makeup artist instead (after she was impressed watching Ishiko Mako's makeup artist doing their job backstage) but somehow they could persuade her.

In her second year of highschool, to prepare for her debut, she moved to Tokyo and transfered to Horikoshi High School (*a high school with a lot of idols and young celebrities). Among her idol classmates, there were other Yokos such as Nagayama Yoko and Minamino Yoko (Nanno). And one year her junior, there was Oginome Yoko. 

Ishino Yoko made her singing debut on April 25, 1985, which made her one of the infamous "group 1985" idols (debuted the same year as Saito Yuki, Nanno, Asaka Yui, Nakayama Miho, Onyanko Club, etc).

In her career, she has released a total of 7 singles and 1 original album. Two of her singles reached #41 and #54 in Oricon chart (with those two songs combined accumulated 37,000 sales) while the others didn't make it to top 100. There's no information about her total song sales.

 

About this song

Released on April 25, 1985, this song reached #41 in Oricon chart and sold 24,000 copies, which is her highest Oricon chart position and her highest selling song.

 

The song was used as theme song for the Sega video game: "TeddyBoy Blues" (1985)

At first she refused because she lacked of confidence to play comedy but Shimura Ken convinced her to give it a try for 3 months. Later she became one of the regulars in "Shimura Ken Daijobu da", from 3 months became 5 years.

I never knew Mako and Yokos family was so rich, I mean 10 rooms house and a Saint Bernard?? Her family is rich rich ^^"

But I also find it funny how she went from playing a passerby to getting contracted and realising a single, but its cute that she wanted to become a makeup artist! Maybe if she persued that route she could have become Makos make up artist ヾ(≧∇≦)ゞ

Seems like idol video game tie-ins were older than I thought, Miporin had one, Risa had one, but I'm surprised that Wink didn't have one since they were really popular + had a lot of CMs

But I'm pretty sure that some other idols were in Sailorfuku doori, I remember it being listed as an idol drama

At least that's what written in wikipedia. 10 rooms already included the workshop, but that's still big. And not anybody could have 2 types of gardens in their home. 😅 It's interesting so I included it. 

 

Yes, it's like Shinobu got scouted when she and her parents sent Miporin to the airport. Yoshimi also seems to be scouted in her sister's concert or something. Scouts wouldn't spare any cute girls including idol's little sisters. 😅

She was said to be impressed to see makeup artists could transform a celebrity into someone who looked totally different. Maybe she could be a good makeup artists, but appeared in cosmetic CM as celebrity also sounds interesting. 😅

 

Yeah, her game looks fun. Don't forget Cuty Suzuki also had her own video game. 😆

Wink had interesting concept to be made into video game. I can imagine something like Castlevania 🏰🧛‍♀️🧛‍♀️

I didn't know Agnes Chan had an idol sister. 😅 Poor Megumi sister, she never sold, but a certain hime kept going to her sister's office, no way the scout would miss a perfect idol material like her. 😅

 

Before Shi-can's dog, there's Buzz. Somehow "Yoru no Hit Studio" didn't bring him to the show. 

 

Hiromi and Yoshimi seems very close. Yoshimi was probably the only little sister to confront Croket for making fun of her sister. 😅 Iwasaki family also seems to be rich, their dad was said to own lumber machine company, and somehow also a kendo instructor for police. The two sisters were made to train kendo when they were little, there's a CM of Yoshimi doing kendo. 

 

If it's Samishii Netaigyo, then maybe a game about mermaid, but wait, there's already a certain super idol singing song about mermaid. Maybe something like Mario Bros, but with fish character. 😅

 

Mie kept appearing in dramas in 1980s. 😅

I wonder if they look alike, I mean I never seen her in any video or picture. 

There's also the Oginome sisters. And then Fu-kun and his Nyanko sister. Then, Takai Mamiko and the Dee Dee dancer. 

 

But it ended up a right decision since Megumi became top idol in the first half of 1970s.

 

lol. As long as Buzz didn't go wild in "Yoru no Hit Studio" like that monkey they brought to "The Best Ten". 😅 Shi-can's dog and the dog starred in Tomomi's movie were small so they're easier to control. And someone's hatsukoi wouldn't bite so they're safe to bring to the studio. 😅

 

Yoshimi is taller so maybe she has longer reach. Or even just because their singing is even (*what kind of logic. lol). 

Asaoka Megumi also played kendo. I've seen her picture playing kendo with staff during rehearsal (probably around 1973-1974 since she still had hime haircut), picture of her drama that had swordplay scene, and in "Yoru no Hit Studio" they asked her to swing a bamboo sword when she was about to sing "Natsu Hakkei".

 

Lol. There's so many mermaid songs.
