Harper UK to Buy Pavilion Books
Harper Collins UK will acquire Pavilion Books, including six of its imprints: Collins & Brown, Pavilion, Portico, Robson, National Trust and Pavilion Children’s. Pavilion owner and publisher Polly Powell will keep two imprints, Batsford and Pitkin, and operate under the name BT Batsford. (That’s the previous name, under which Batsford operated until going into receivership in 1999, with Chrysalis Books buying their assets. Chrysalis became Anova, when then became Pavilion.) Bookselling: Greenlight’s Stockton-Bagnulo Buys Out Fitting
Rebecca Fitting, co-owner of Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, has sold her share to Jessica Stockton-Bagnulo, who is now the sole owner. The two founded the store in 2009. Two weeks ago Barnes & Noble announced their buyers’ picks for best books of the year overall and across multiple categories. Now the chains’ booksellers have duly picked 5.5 of the buyers’ top 11 as finalist for their Book of the Year designation, to be named November 18. Both include titles Anthony Doerr, Paul McCartney, T.J. Klune, and Louise Erdrich, with booksellers favoring a picture book in verse from Nikole Hannah-Jones’s 1619 Project over the adult book. HBG USA Sales Down in Q3 Due to “Unfavorable Comparison”
Lagardere reported third quarter results for the period ending September 30 on Thursday morning, with publishing division sales of €696 million, down 1.2 percent from last year. Company-wide revenues increased 23.1 percent to €1.46 billion in the quarter, with the travel division rebounding on the easing of travel restrictions.
