The Indigenous Communities Program (ICP) supported the resolve of Native Americans to renew their communities through their own institutions and traditions. Funding priority were given to rural indigenous projects that were consistent with traditional values in the areas of education, Native cultures, the revival and preservation of languages, legal rights, and environmental protection.
The foundation supported the efforts of several national organizations, though funding priority was given to smaller, rural grassroots organizations serving communities that are indigenous to specific geographic locations. Organizations supported both serve and are controlled by Native people.
