In the case of mechanical part machining when faced with conflicting objectives, these methods have become essential in the selection of necessary cutting parameters.. The integration of these techniques with multi-objective optimization procedures has proven effective in leading to an efficient solution to a multi-attribute decision-making problem. The present study falls within this context. Its primary objective being the determination of the optimal cutting parameters that reduces tool vibration, minimizes surface roughness along withmaximizing material removal rate during the turning of Inconel 718 using a coated carbide cutting tool grade (GC1105). These various objectives have been achieved through combining the principal component analysis (PCA) method to the measurement of alternatives and ranking according to the compromis...

The machining factors taken into account during turning are: cutting speed ( Vc), feed rate ( f), depth of cut ( ap), and cutting tool material (CBN, white ceramic, mixed ceramic, and silicon nitride). The first part of this investigation concerns the evaluation of the four cutting materials performance used in terms of tool wear evolutions, 2D and 3D surface roughness and cutting forces variation according to working parameters. The second part exposes the results according to L32 Taguchi design of experiment. Statistical treatment by ANOVA allowed to quantify the impact of the input factors on the performance parameters, namely the surface roughness ( Ra), the cutting force ( Fz), the cutting power ( Pc), and the specific cutting energy ( Ecs). The response surface methodology (RSM), and the artificial neural network (ANN) approach were adopted to develop mathem...

T... more Intermittent turning (IT) is characterized by a different context than continuous turning (CT). The cutting tool is shocked each time it goes off-load and engages a new surface. This interruption causes severe cutting conditions, which fatally affect the performance parameters. The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of four cutting factors, tool nose radius (r), cutting speed (Vc), feed rate (f), and depth of cut (ap), on the following output performance parameters: surface roughness (Ra), cutting temperature (T°), and cutting tool wear (VB) during turning (IT) AISI D3 cold work tool steel. A triple CVD (AI2O3/TiC/TiCN)-coated carbide cutting tool was used. A Taguchi L9 (3^4) experimental design was adopted for carrying out the experiments in intermittent turning. To improve the performance parameters based on three (3) highly particular scenarios that fulfill industrial criteria, the desirability function (DF) and the grey relational analysis method (GRA) were used. The cutting tool inserts used are the CVD coated carbide. The cutting speed, the feed rate and the depth of cut represent the main machining parameters considered. Their influence on the surface roughness and the cutting force are further investigated using the ANOVA method. The results obtained lead to conclude that the feed rate is the surface roughness highest influencing parameter with a contribution of 89.69%.The depth of cut and the feed rate are further identified as the most important parameters affecting the cutting force with contributions of 46.46% and 39.04% respectively. The quadratic mathematical models presenting the progression of the surface roughness and the cutting force and based on the machining parameters considered (cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut) were obt...

Indeed, these indicators are very sensitive to the variations in the temporal signal related directly to the vibrations induced during turning operation. Nevertheless, their reliability is immediately limited in the presence of intense levels of random noise and other machine components. In addition to the Wavelet Multi-Resolution Analysis (WMRA) which brought a solution to this problem, one proposes a new spectral indicator, which one called overall level, to separate the phases characterizing the tool’s wear. The results obtained from this article made it possible to study the phenomena of vibration associated with machining, and to locate the transition point from the normal wear period to the accelerated wear period.
This paper focuses on a comparative study of the machinability of two semi-crystalline polymers (... more This paper focuses on a comparative study of the machinability of two semi-crystalline polymers (POM-C) and (PA-6), during dry turning operations. The aim is to experimentally examine the impact of cutting parameters, namely cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut on surface roughness, cutting force, cutting power, and material removal rate. A series of experiments according to a Taguchi L18 plan was implemented. The ANOVA analysis revealed that the type of material a substantial effect on surface roughness, followed by feed, whereas cutting force and cutting power are more affected by depth of cut. Linear regression models with interactions proved effective in predicting the studied responses, and single-objective optimization using SA and GA methods were applied to optimize each response. The GRA and COPRAS methods coupled with weighting methods CRITIC, ROC, SWARA, and Entropy are used for multi-objective optimization of the considered responses. The results showed that the combinat...

This holographic imaging method uses a CCD camera for the simultaneous digital recording of two views of digital Fresnel OA holograms on the same support. The reconstruction is obtained numerically. The method provides two orthogonal views of the same flow area of interest at the same instant. It helps to overcome the depth of focus problem existing for the particle image reconstructions and that is inherent to the method. This method has the advantage of being simpler than the methods presently available, and it does not suffer from the flaws of in-line holographic configuration. Furthermore it is completely digital and thus avoids the cumbersome analysis following hologram recording. Digital holograms and digital reconstructions are obtained for solid particles of 200 mum moving into a stirred flow cell of 5 cm(3).
