Surgical site infection is classified by the american center for disease control (CDC) into superficial incisional surgical site infections SSI, deep incisional SSI and organ/space SSI. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of post-surgical site infections, assess the risk factors, determine the various and most microorganisms encountered and study the antibiotic sensitivity in post-surgical site infection after post-surgical site infection in Deido district hospital Douala. Materials and Methods: we conducted a 3 months hospital based prospective study on general surgery, obstetric and gynecologic records admission at the Deido district Hospital Douala from February 1st 2020 to April 30th 2020. We included available files of the general surgery, obstetrics an...

These objects may be the cause of penetrating wounds responsible for neurological deficits with breaches of the dura mater, or they may be without neurological deficits due to the level of the weapon in the spine. We present two clinical cases of patients with penetrating knife wounds of the spine. One at cervical level with pneumorrhagic emphysema, spinal cord compression and pneunemoencephaly, with neurological deficit who had a surgical intervention followed by physiotherapy and a progressive recovery, the other with a penetrating wound at L5 crossing the blade to the vertebral body without neurological deficit in whom the knife was extracted at the emergency d...

It can originate from the vertebral bodies or the posterior arch and is described in patients between 5 and 78 years of age [1]. We present the clinical case of a 60 year old woman, who consulted for dorso-thoracic pain around the belt line and who was treated as a gastroduodenal ulcer, after a Pott's disease on the basis of an imaging diagnosis showing spondylodiscitis lesions with a paravertebral spindle D11-D12. Firstly, it was operated by a posterior approach by laminectomy spondylodesis of D10 D11- L1 L2 and biopsy of the tumor whose anatomopathological examination diagnosed a vertebral chondroma directing towards a total corporectomy by anterior or antero-lateral way. After the refusal of the second operation by the patient, she came back in consultation 3 months later with Fran...

Our hypothesis: many factors can influence it. Some of these factors have been studied, but with controversial results. Methodology: It was a monocentric prospective and comparative study. All primary total knee replacement were included. For each factor, we compared a group of patients with above mean flexion to those with smaller flexion, using comparison of means, regression analysis and the chi square test. Results: We had 110 arthroplasties from 88 patients. Three preoperative factors affected the outcome: pre-operative knee flexion < 110°, flexum deformity > 5° and a body mass index above 30kg/m2. The respective Pearson coefficient value for these three factors were +0.50, +0.05, and -0.13.The chi square values were respectively 12.019 (p<0.001) and 6.091 (p<0.02) for the first two ones. Mean postoperative flexion values were significantly low for the patients with high body mass index ...

In Cameroon, the disease is annually responsible for 30 to 35% of the total deaths, 35% of childhood mortality and 40 to 45% of morbidity cases. A hospital-based crosssectional study was conducted among pregnant women in Fako Division Southwest Region of Cameroon to assess the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women on malaria. A questionnaire was used to collect data on the knowledge of pregnant women towards malaria prevention and 503 women aged 15–50 years responded. The questionnaires were written in English and the interviewers translated them to French or Pidgin English where necessary. They were also pre-tested to ensure that it maintained its original meaning. Of the 503 women who participated in the study, 208 (44.9%) were in the 2 nd trimester and 20 (4.3%) in the 3 rd trimester of pregnancy. Only 121 (24.1%) of pregnant women cor...

The Cameroon health system has consistently faced huge challenges to meet these objectives. As upshot; decision-makers identified the lack of a suitable health financing policy as an important issue that needed to be addressed. In response; the performance- based financing (PBF) scheme was implemented. Objective of Study: Assess the short term effects of PBF on both maternal and child health services. Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out in the Mifi Health District to compare the trend in some key child health indicators before and after PBF’s implementation across 41 randomly selected health facilities. A linear regression model and a paired sample T-test were used in the analysis, considering a p-value of <0.05 as significant and a confidence interval at 95%. Results: There was a significant decrease in the mean Pentavalent dropout...

Study Design: We use a data-based analysis on longitudinal data of reported COVID-19 cases in Cameroon. Place and Duration: The data for the study were obtained from the reports of confirmed COVID-19 cases from an official website between March 7, 2020 to September 29, 2021. Methodology: A modified Susceptible-Infected-Recovered-Deceased (SIRD) model for the contagion was used to describe the cumulated cases of COVID-19 during different phases of the epidemic that correlated with highest spikes. The approach features several aspects: one is that model parameters can be time-varying, allowing us to capture possible changes of the epidemic behaviour, due for example to containment measures enforced by authorities or modifications of the epidemic characteristics, country events, and COVID-19 vaccine introduction; the second aspect is that the model accounts f...

Parasitic infections of the intestinal tract are a major cause of disease in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), particularly in the tropics. Diarrhoea is also a common complaint among patients in the tropics and specific pathogens are being identified in more than half of human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) patients. These among others include: Cryptosporidium parvum, Isospora belli, Microsporidium spp., Giardia lamblia, Trichomonas intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica and Cyclospora cayetanensis. A total of 300 stool samples from 100 HIV-positive patients with treatment, 100 HIVpositive patients without treatment and 100 contr...
