Problem statement:

DRR is a systematic approach to identifying, assessing, and reducing the risks of disaster. Humanitarian action includes the protection of civilians and those no longer taking part in hostilities, and the provision of food, water and … , undertaken for the benefit of affected people and to facilitate the return to normal lives and livelihoods. These are the issues that we believe we need to work on in our committee. So, we intend to teach DRR and HA basics by holding pre-ANG sessions.

Objectives:

  • Teaching and transmitting information about DRR and HEA to medical students and drawing students’ attention to this issue for more activity
  1. to have 20 participants complete the Online workshop successfully by 13/Nov/2021.
  2. Increase the knowledge of participants in HA and DRR basics successfully by 13/Nov/2021.
  3. participants being able to describe Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction by 13/Nov/2021.
  4. Participants start doing activities on the topics mentioned in the sessions at the local and national level, which will be reviewed through follow-up within the next 6 months after the end of the workshop.

Indicators of Success:

  • to have at least 15 participants attending all the sessions and fill all the required evaluation forms of the workshop.
  • comparison in pre and post-evaluation will show at least a 20% increase in HA and DRR basics knowledge.
  • at least 70% of participants will be able to describe Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction throughout the post-evaluation form.
  • At least %50 of the participants get involved in IFMSA, NMOs, and LCs by conducting at least one DRR or HA activity in any form ( Webinar, online for physical campaigns, educating and awareness CP, etc.) within 6 months after the workshop

Methodology:

The overall theme of this workshop will be DRR and HA. Following topics will be taught during the sessions:

  • principles of HA
  • Humanitarian Action vs Development Aid
  • Youth & Humanitarian Action
  • Natural hazards and disasters
  • Disaster Risk Reduction basics
  • Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction

In the first stage, after the initial brain-storm about the format of the sessions, a call will be published in IMSA-Iran SCORP informing Board to invite executive staff to cooperate.

In the next stage, the call for the registration of participants will be published. 20 people will be selected based on the motivation letter and previous experiences. The pre-test will be taken before the start of the sessions to assess participants’ prior knowledge. The workshop will be held in two days and 4 2-hour sessions around the topics mentioned earlier. 

After the sessions, the effectiveness of the training will be evaluated through a 6-month follow-up and a test post.
