PhD in Political Science at IUPERJ (2001), Ana Paula Balthazar Tostes was awarded the Jean Monnet Chair of the European Union (JMC), is a Senior Fellow of the EUROPA Programme of the Brazilian Centre for International Relations (CEBRI), professor at the Institute of Social and Political Studies (IESP-UERJ) and the Department of International Relations (DRI) at UERJ. She is a FAPERJ and CNPq researcher (PQ-Level 2), a member of the strategic nucleus of the Interdisciplinary Observatory on Climate Change (OIMC), of Acauã (International Relations Bulletin) and coordinator of LabRI/UERJ, leading the CNPq European Studies research group.

She was visiting professor at the Free University of Berlin (FUB, Germany), a post-doctoral researcher and visiting professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of São Paulo (USP), and visiting professor and associate professor at the Department of Political Science in James Madison College (JMC), at Michigan State University (MSU, USA). Her works in research and teaching focus mainly in European studies, EU, International Institutions, Regional Integration and International Relations.
